Saw III [film only]
I was drinking cranberry juice while watching Saw III again… yes, I was actually drinking a red juice while hearing bones being crushed, muscles being torn, and blood splashing on people's faces. Yummy, but I wonder where this is going to lead me. When you begin watching Saw III, you will only see a series of terribly gory scenes, and definitely wonder what you have gotten yourself into. But if you give the film a chance, you'll end up having a complete picture of a game that was played on the span of two hours, according to a perfect plan. Let the game begin…
The film presents the story of a man who seems to be filled with anger and vindictive feelings because of the death of his 8-year-old son, three years ago. The child was driving his bicycle and a young man hit him accidentally with his car. The judge in this case decided to imprison the driver for six months, but this was not enough for the distressed father. At the same time, a female doctor was kidnapped by Amanda, Jigsaw's protégé, and led into something like a dungeon. There, an explosive collar is put around her neck, and she is told that she has to save Jigsaw, who has a tumour in his brain, or die with him.
The good thing about Saw III is that it answers a number of questions that you might have, rather than just posing more questions and leaving unfinished business as the other sequels do. At the end of this film, you are actually fooled into believing that this is the last Saw sequel; by now we know it isn't. It also deals with believable issues; you might agree with Jigsaw that people should learn to let go. I have to say here that I do not condone Jigsaw's methods, but I think the people he chose should be punished in some way. The problem lies not in "protagonists" but in the people who should be sacrificed to complete the picture. Watching the film, you'll notice that it's the story of Jigsaw, Amanda, the father, and the doctor; as for the rest… well, they have to die for Jeff, the father, to learn something.
When Jigsaw first helped Amanda, who was a drug addict, he said to her: "Amanda, do not be afraid. Your life has just begun." This does not seem very creepy, does it? Well, for me, it's terribly creepy because it reminded me of what Jesus Christ said to Peter in order to encourage him to walk on the water like him: "It is I; do not be afraid." What made the image even more creepy is that Amanda, the assistant, bleeds her thigh which reminded me of Silas in The da Vinci Code, who also used to wear a spiked cilice belt that cuts into the flesh around his thigh to punish himself. I know I make the craziest connections ever.
I can't start telling you how gory this film is, but because of well-made mystery it is based on along with all the suspense, it is worth watching, if you can tolerate all the terrifying scenes and noises, and I'm not giving you any hints here. In this sequel there are flashbacks that will make you know more about Saw and Saw II, and despite what other reviewers say, I still think that watching any of Saw films without having previous knowledge of the others is definitely possible; I think you'll miss 5-10% of the things you should know, but you still end up watching a proper horror movie. Enjoy!
