Saw 3 kicks off the trilogy's reputation for gore almost instantly, and doesn't let up. There are times when the plotting and twists that made Saw and Saw 2 so ingenious and rewatchable seem to be lost under a haze of squirming and retching, but the film delivers an excellent narrative structure held up the acting talents of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith who reprise their roles of the sinister Jigsaw and his unhinged apprentice Amanda.
Angus Macfadyen makes a welcome addition as Jigsaw's latest victim, forced through a sadistic series of games of redemption which at times bear a symbology so painfully simplistic that this can sometimes feel more like a homage or remake than a sequel.
Saw 3 does its best to weave into the plot structure of the first two films, however the flashbacks, revisits, jumpcuts and dizzying visual can at times become confusing and lend weight to the idea that this second sequel is resting heavily on what has come before it.
This Extreme Edition DVD offers all the extended bloodying, piercing and squishing that the majority of UK cinema audiences were denied, and a wealth of extra features.

good review, i really liked the first two and i haven't had chance to watch the 3rd. I might pick it up for a little watch next week sometime cheers!

Sorry for the SH, but if this is to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in similar detail to the way you've reviewed the film, rather than just a passing mention of them.
