In summer 2006 there was talk of a film so bloodcurdling it could make a studio audience feel physically sick. Whilst the end of October crept along sci-fi and horror fans all over the UK feasted their eyes on the brutal, bloodthirsty horror of 2006; Saw 3. My first encounter with the movie was after Christmas as I had just been introduced to saw 2 by my sci-fi fanatic sister. I must admit when I first heard I thought ok this sounds cheesy and as the movie continued I was gradually proved right. Many parts of the movie were fantastically filmed and superbly acted but other areas proved the theory that number one in a trilogy is always the best.
The movie starts of with a jaded nurse who works in a busy hospital but as she goes on with her day she gets more outlandish whilst in surgery. When her shift finishes Lynn is attacked by a bizarre figure. When she awakes she is met with a man who is clearly on his death bed and she later becomes aware that he is the dreaded Jigsaw or as he is addressed in this movie; John. At this time she is also met with 'The Game.' Jigsaw's assistant Amanda cautiously places what seems to be another torture device only this one is stationed around her neck. She is told that if his heart stops beating then a bomb placed inside the device will blow and wipe her out. Whilst hoping for John's condition to be helped, Amanda is however disturbed by an unlucky citizen who is being put through a test of revenge and his prize is being faced with the real killer of his son, but is he just and unlucky citizen or is he of relevance to the current events. The movie continues with many twists and turns but still doesn't deliver the same amount of vigilance that number one does. However the storyline and the obscurity of this movie, distributes a much more chilling atmosphere if watched correctly.
Many people in the UK who watched the original edited movie were falling sick in the theatre and fainting because of the indistinctness of that version. Now that extreme edition has been distributed people all over the world are feeling as though they can understand what the victims are going through as the movie depicts their deaths in every detail. I cannot emphasise enough that if you are light hearted do NOT attend a dark room whilst watching movie in fact avoid seeing it at all.
I would not say this movie is a waste of time and can confidently say that if you have seen the first two you should definitely give it a try. The beginning is superbly filmed and I would clearly recognise Shawnee Smith (Amanda) as the best actor in the trilogy although her character is let down by the storyline she is made to finish the movie with.
I would definitely recommend buying this version of the movie.

Hi, great review. I am a SAW fan. Have not seen 3 but seen 1 & 2. Really want to see this one too as others were gripping! Have you seen The Ring DVD? That's good too. Look forward to seeing it! Julia
