It's an old story. Boy meets girl, boy dies of old age, girl discovers boy has left her bankrupt, girl attempts to make a killing by growing dope.
Oh yes, and girl's friends (mostly pensioners) get totally wasted following huge marijuana fire.
Saving Grace fits neatly into the gentle Britcomedy mould of Full Monty or Waking Ned. Words like whimsical or, dare one say, heartwarming are likely to feature in most reviews. But there is a good side to it too. You have to see this film for one reason, and one reason only: although it may be slightly sick to watch 80-year old WI members getting stoned, it also makes one of the funniest film scenes of the last few years.
The plot's quite good, the ending's annoyingly contrived, but that really isn't the point. It's got to be worth two hours of your time to discover an altogether more relaxed way of consuming young Britain's favourite relaxant: stewed under a tea cosy and served with milk and two sugars.

Advantages: This film is very, very funny, and Brenda Blethyn is brilliant. Disadvantages: The farce feels slightly old-fashioned, but that actually makes it more fun in my opinion.
