This film doesn’t have a really well known cast, it doesn’t have any breath-taking special effects and it isn’t full of sex. However this film did touch my heart, it gave me an insight into life, love and loss.
The film is about a 17-year-old girl, called Sarah, who loves to dance, her dream is to become a top ballerina. She goes to an audition for a top dance school in New York. Her mum was rushing to get to the audition so that she could see her daughter dance but on the way she has a car crash and dies. Distraught and heartbroken Sarah blames herself for her mother’s death. She packs all of her ballerina clothes into a box and stops dancing. She goes to live with her father, who live in a rough American neighbourhood in a pokey flat which is small and damp.
On her first day at school, she realises that 95% of the other students are black and that all the teachers are black also. Desperately trying to overcome the death of the mother and also trying to fit in at school, things start to look up for her when she begins a friendship with a girl in her class. She agrees to go to a party with this girl, she turns up looking like someone from the countryside. I mean picture it a white girl dressed like that in a night club what is full of black people dancing to hip hop and wearing bandana’s. She meets this great guy who teaches her how to dance the way that they do. They become very close, she learns about different cultures and lifestyles.
Sarah and him take time-out together, (a bit like they did in dirty dancing) they dance together and start to enjoy each other’s company. He takes her to a ballerina concert, seeing the ballerina’s dance brings back all the memories of her mother’s death and her dream of dancing. She confides in him and tells him that her mother is dead and that she blames herself and that she that she can’t bring herself to dance again without her mother. This part had me in tears, very moving and upsetting. - Finally they kiss - oooh it’s lovely. That night she opens the box and puts on her ballerina shoes and tries to put the past behind her.
This film really opened my eyes it shows you young children starring at her because they have never seen a white person before, it brings out different views that people have about white and black people being together and in love, by showing you people shaking there heads in disgust. It gives you an insight into some people’s attitudes on life and how tensions run high in different cultures and beliefs.
This film really touched my heart in many ways; it filled me with tears and emotion. Through love, culture, conflicts and confrontations it makes this special journey through this 17 year old girls life a video that is unmissable. Go now and rent it, It is a great feel good film, it is great.
The sound tract is excellent The soundtrack itself is brilliant. It was produced by MTV and features the best in Hip Hop and R&B today. and it is going to be in the shops to buy soon.

I haven't seen the film and I probably never will but this is a great review all the same and makes me want to see the film. One minor criticism though - maybe you gave away a bit too much of the film, I don't know.....
