The best of series 4 so far
Review of Doctor Who - Series 4 Vol.3 DVD by  bumbybumbum

Advantages: You can watch it over and over again
Disadvantages: None really

...on the planet to pamper herself and the Doctor takes a shuttle to the Sapphire Waterfall, where halfway through the journey the shuttle has a malfunction and then they hear a knocking from outside, which is supposed to be impossible as the outside atmosphere is lethal. Cue claustaphobia, paranoia and creepyness as one of the passengers gets possesed by an unknown being. Great fun and mostly filmed in the shuttle craft. Steven Moffat will be taking over from Russell T. Davis in the 5th series of Doctor Who in 2010, so expect a darker fell to the series. No extras on the DVD.... Read review

are you my mummy?
Review of Doctor Who - Series 1 Vol.3 DVD by  sparkymarky1973

Advantages: Three of the best episodes so far on one disc can't be bad
Disadvantages: A bit of a weak story to start them all off

...that the show has to offer. This can be seen from this two-parter set during the second world war that introduces us also to Captain Jack Harkness of Torchwood fame who later goes on to become...well that would be telling.... A piece of space junk has landed in war-time London but is not as empty as it appears to be. The Doctor pursues it through time and arrives about a month after it has landed by which time an epidemic has began to spread. Gas Masks begin appearing on peoples faces, fused to their skin, and they are compelled to walk the streets asking "Are you my mummy?" Okay, okay it doesn't sound scary I'll grant you but the actual effect, much like some of the early SAPPHIRE AND STEEL shows from the late '70's, is eerily disturbing. Moffatt has this knack of tying in to our subconcious fears and making the smallest things seem very very... Read review

A Crack in Time!
Review of Doctor Who - City Of Death DVD by  SnakePlissken

Advantages: Tom Baker's performance, beautiful turns in the screw, cinematography of Paris, big feel-good factor
Disadvantages: None, seriously

...and modern thing and the domain of The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, The Sixth Sense, Seven (indeed they have become largely obligatory in cinema these days) but it was a kind of cinema that was present in the early 70's as well, in mindbender films like "The Wicker Man" and "Don't Look Now", and it was something that creeped its way into Television serials as well, in Doctor Who and more often in Doctor Who's rival sci-fi series Sapphire & Steel (which ran for six feature length serial adventures from 1979 to 1982, and is now available to buy in a pair of DVD Box sets- go on, you know you want to). This story, along with Evil of the Daleks and Ghostlight, is the closest in feel to Sapphire & Steel territory, in that the serial runs with an air of intelligent mystery and puzzle pieces coming slowly to formation until the concluding part where all...
