FILM ONLY REVIEW:
There's something incredibly thrilling about Christmas films. Each year I love to go to the cinema and watch whatever we are presented with that year, bad reviews or not. Last week I had the chance to sit down with the family and watch a newly released Christmas film - Santa Buddies. The stars of the film are dogs, and they are the same dogs - the Buddies - that you will see in both Space Buddies and Snow Buddies, as well as Air Buddies. Now I had seen neither of those films but had heard great things about them, so was looking forward to watching this.
The film tells the story from Puppy Paws' point of view. He works at Santa's workshop alongside all the other Christmas pups, making the toys and sorting everything out for Christmas Eve. Though whilst playing he accidentally knocks the electricity off for a bit and puts the toy making to a hault for a while. Puppy Paws gets into trouble from both Santa, and his own father Santa Paws. Puppy Paws decides to escape to America in search of the Buddies, in the hope that he will become a normal pup. Though when he finds them, things do not turn out as planned...
I must admit, this is a very special Christmas film! It isn't your usual pretty elf girl/confused Santa man in a department store or your villain trying to ruin Christmas in the North Pole. There hasn't been a unique Christmas film like this since the release of Elf a few years back, so it was great to finally have one! The characters are most certainly unique too! I mean, how often do you get to combine talking dogs and Christmas?! Puppy Paws is adorable, a gorgeous snow white dog, who just wants to be normal. He is voiced by Zachary Gordon. Then you have the five Buddies: Buddha (voiced by Field Cate), Budderball (Josh Flitter), Mud Bud (Ty Panitz), B-Dawg (Skyler Gisondo) and Rosebud (Liliana Mumy). I'm not surprised to see Liliana Mumy in there, she seems to be in all our Christmas films lately! Each puppy has its own personality, such as rapper B-Dawg and fashion expert Rosebud. They are all so adorable, reasons alone to watch the film! The film is directed by Robert Vince, who I hadn't actually heard of before. Though he directed the other 'Buddies films, and thanks to IMDB I just found out that he is currently working on 'The Search for Santa Paws', which sounds quite interesting. The film has a certificate of U (Universal), meaning it is fun for the whole family. We all sat down to watch it - my two younger siblings loved it, my Mam loved it, and my Mam's husband who loves Star Trek and Saw films, also loved it! I can honestly say that it truly is perfect for everybody! I have a feeling that I am going to end up buying a copy of this film for myself. It is only recently released so it is not down in price yet, but can be purchased from HMV for £11, or you can pay £18 for a boxset which gives you all four Buddies films. Amazon.co.uk is also selling Santa Buddies for the same price.
This is a delightful little film that has certainly got me into the Christmas spirit. I now just have to locate copies of the other Buddies films, as you simply cannot just stop at one film. It is truly amazing, with a gorgeous little furry cast, and most certainly worth a watch!
