Is the Countdown over for this DVD game?

Advantages: In keeping with the classic TV show. Fun and educational. Entertaining.
Disadvantages: Don't get to choose the letters or numbers. Rounds repeat too often.

This Countdown DVD (presented by the now departed Des Lynam and Carol Vorderman, as it was produced in 2006), is based on the long-running classic TV show. It allows users to play the game for themselves against family and friends (or on their own if they wish) and recreate the fun and excitement of the show. For those who don't know the rules of Countdown, here's a general rundown. Countdown comprises of letter rounds, number rounds and a conundrum. In the letters rounds (of which there are 11 in the 15-round format that the DVD follows), series of random consonants and vowels are chosen, and the object is to make the longest word you can from these letters (the longer the word, the more points scored. Fun interactive console

Advantages: fun, interactive, different, good game selection
Disadvantages: can get really expensive, controllers tend to have bad battery life

The Nintendo Wii is a really different console system which allows you to plays games in a whole different way. Unlike the traditional game console system where you just used a controller to maneouvre your character around the screen the Wii means you can effectively control the little people. This interactivity can find you hitting a tennis ball like you were playing a game of tennis or playing a round of golf. There are many games to choose from with options such as sports games, music games, children or adventure games. There is also the option to buy extra accessories for some games such as the Wii Music, Guitar Hero etc. This all fits in with the interactivity of the system and almost lets you think you are playing the guitar on stage. Review of Nintendo Wii

Fun, interactive gaming for everyone

Advantages: Easy to use, robust, great range of games
Disadvantages: Graphics not the best

Fi connectivity, allowing you to both play with people nearby AND across the world if you have access to a wireless router or WiFi hotspot. The Lite is incredibly slim and will fit into most pockets, with the screens protected by a tough outer casing. It uses both DS cartridges and also the old Gameboy Advance cartridges, immediately widening the range of games that you can play. A word of warning however; GBA games will only display on one screen. Working in a game shop, I can safely say that these are incredibly reliable consoles; we probably get less of these back faulty than anything. Rarely do they develop a fault within the 2 years manufacturing warranty that Nintendo supplies with them; most often it is because someone has dropped it!
