..If what you really want out of film(like me)is for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas to get off their collective beardy arses and make the next INDIANA JONES film before Harrison Ford has to use a zimmer frameto star in it,. Sahara will provide a temporary fix of action.
...In this fast-paced flick which is based on Clive Cusslers Dirk Pitt novels, Mathew McConaughey plays the heroic adventurer, a former navy diner turned legal tresure hunter. A man who never found an exploit he didnt want to try, Pitt heads off around the world looking for historys lost riches. While hes searching for an ultra rare civil war coin, he crosses paths with sexy docter Eva Rojas who is played by the lovely Penelope Cruz in africa. Shes on her own particular quest-seeking the source of a mysterious plague that is lilling swathes and swathes of unfortunate villagers.
SANDY VENTURE!!! ..No prizes for guessing that their joint quests combine, as the team pair up to solve her mystery and find his artifact. Fortunately, thats not all Sahara has to it, thanks to comedy sidekick Steve Zahn, who is always ready for a wisecrack. For all of McConagheys gung ho action man behavior, its Zahn who actually makes the movie worth wathing. That, and William H Macy as an Admiral who helps the team out from time to time(mostly providing the hardware for pitt and company to blow up).
,,Director Breck Eisner brings a real light touch to the action, which romps along through its basic plot, stopping occasionally to enjot some entertaining set-pieces, including a river boat shootout and Pitt building and sailing a land surfer out of a crashed plane. True, theres never really a moment you wont be able to predict, with the film sticking to a tried and true formula in its schemming villains (including The Matrixs Lambert Wilson rolling out another dodgy French geezer ) and a bond-style showdown at a solar power plant. At the very least, its an enjoyable-if really stupid at times-ride and the perfect solution while we sit and wait for Spielberg and Ford to crack the whip.
Verdict..Action nonsense thats a fun popcorn flick, but nothing more than that .Still, probably worth a look if you really cant find anything else in blockbuster..
ITS BETTER THAN...TEARS OF THE SUN ITS WORSE THAN....RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
STARRING.. Mathew McConaughey Steve Zahn Penelope Cruz William H Macy Delroy Lindo Lambert Wilson Robert Cavanagh Patrick Malahide

I was really disapppointed with this for some reason. Perhaps it wasn't too treasury enough with loads of booby traps, rather they had a lot of villains and shootings - Kupo x

Ignore what I was about to say. I was going to say that you really should include the extras, even if they are feeble, but it does seem that there really are no extras (apart from foreign language soundtracks) on this disc. Rating about to be changed.

A good, concise review. Not much of a critique, but there's more than enough to help the reader out here! Cheers, I might just buy this over the weekend. Alboy

Advantages: Swash and buckling. What more do you need? Action? Adventure? Humour? It's all here. Disadvantages: Nothing serious enough to spoil the fun.
