i was looking forward to seeing S.W.A.T. (special weapons and tactics) ever since i watched the American trailer July for the august 8th release there but i was amazed to find out that the UK release date was not till December which is very rare in a day where most films are released within a few weeks of each other both sides of the Atlantic or even on the same day (matrix 2+3, LOTR, X men 2 etc) so after a long 4 month wait I finally went to see it 2 weeks ago and i must say it was worth the long wait to see as it was very entertaining and not just on of those action films where the best bits are in the trailer.
Director: Clark Johnson (the shield) Cast: Samuel L Jackson (changing lanes, jakie brown) Colin Farrell (the recruit, phone booth) Michelle Rodriguez (resident evil, blue crush) LL Cool J (Deep blue sea, rollerball) Oliver Martinez (Unfaithful) Cert: 12A Run Time: 1hr 57min
The Story:
The basic plot is that Farrell plays a SWAT member (Tim Street) who has done quite well for himself until him and his partner disobey orders when trying to resolve a bank job with hostages lives at risk, so he gets relived from active duty and goes to work in the armoury, until Sgt ' Hondo' Harrelson (Samuel L Jackson) comes to town looking to make a kick ass SWAT team to combat LA's crime problem. They end up with Farrell, Samuel L, Rodriguez and LL forming the coolest team since will and martin in bad boys 2. Before they are let out onto the mean streets of LA they have to do some training and boy do they do a lot of it, 20 min of the film is taken up by Colin showing off his sharp shooting skills and the teams ability to storm a plane full of terrorists. but there services are soon required when a billionaire drug baron is arrested and offers $100 million to the first person who can get him free, so its up to Colin and the gang to make sure no one does. there now follows half a hour of over the top explosions and gun fights - everything you expect from a Hollywood action film. SWAT is a great film full of talent, it also has a great plot based on a American 70's TV show. its well worth going to see this film, if you liked bad boys 2 you will enjoy this and i think SWAT offers more than BB's 2 did properly due to Farrell, he’s been in so many film this year and brings a breath of fresh air to each role (daredevil, the recruit, phone booth, veronica guerin and intermission) he must work everyday of the year to be in so many films and with him staring in the new big budget 'Alexander' film it looks like we will be seeing much more of him in the future. SWAT has great action scenes and a great sound track, everything from Jane's Addiction to linkin Park is in this film.
The American R1 DVD comes out on December 30th (get it from cdwow.com) and you can expect 2 commentaries, eight deleted scenes, three making of's and interactive audio features.
If you want a break from LOTR this Christmas go and see SWAT its a good film which has made over $120m in the USA alone and is one its way to be a big hit over here too.

Punctuation and spelling made this almost as unreadable as the movie was unwatchable.

I really liked this film as I knew what to expect before seeing it, guns, explosions, bullets, muscles and one-liners. However I didn't think very much was made of the $100M angle. The film was half over before that was even mentioned. Good op though.
