Russian All-Stars - The Sleeping Beauty DVD

...When someone says Sleeping Beauty my first thought is the ballet. I saw the Royal Ballet perform Sleeping Beauty a few years ago at the ENO whilst the ROH was being refurbished and it was magical. I completly forgot Disneys classic, although I must have watched it a hundred times as a child, how soon we forget but how lovely to discover again. So how does a cartoon compare to to the Ballet, quite simply it doesn't and shouldn't. In time honoured fashion the Disney Film captures the story with all the elements you'd expect. Fantastic score which you just can't help singing along to, loveable characters and sinister characters. The story is told with all the flair and artistry one comes to not only expect but is an absolute must from Disney. Young or old this is a film that could quite easily keep you entertained for an hour... Read review

Advantages: Wonderful songs, great animation
Disadvantages: More for the girls!

...every spindle that they have. And Aurora falls asleep, waiting for her Prince to come and wake her up… The film is animated beautifully and really has that Disney charm. No wonder Aurora is one of the popular Disney princesses even today! The bonus features on the dvd are really good. I recently used it when I was babysitting and the kids absolutely loved the feature where you can colour in your favourite characters. Also included on the extra features is an original artwork gallery which is really interesting. This is a great family dvd for all ages (thought I think girls would enjoy it more), and a great one for a dvd collection that you will want to watch again. I recommend it.... Read review

Advantages: The faires and the dress! Funny!
Disadvantages: The older you get, the more boring it becomes

...Sleeping Beauty is yet another Disney classic. It about a princess (who doesn't know she is one), and meets a prince (she doesn't know that he's one) in a forest on her 16th birthday. Later, she finds out that she is a princess and has been betrothed to a prince. She doesn't want to be however, she wants to be with the guy she met in a forest. This movie is quite boring, as you can probably tell from my summary of the film. I enjoyed it when I was younger, but it is really quite boring as you get older, and I don't usually get this with Disney films. I don't really recommend this to anyone over the age of 13, but kids younger than that will enjoy it I think.... Read review
