Advantages: Histerically Funny Disadvantages: Might not be your taste
...finding something good, I spotted Russell Howard's "Live" DVD. The name rang a bell and I briefly remembered seeing a 2 minute clip of Russell on youtube and finding it funny. So the DVD was brought for 9.99.
If you have never seen Russell Howard before or seen any of his material, I can only describe him as being hysterically funny with a boyish charm. His youthful physical appearance, accompanied by a very cheeky grin ... ...own individual tastes and humour. Russell appeals to mine perfectly. If you giggle at the idea of the queen pulling a blanket over her body and asking Philip if she looks like a stamp, then your in for a treat, or if you have ever thought that it would be a great idea to hide in MFI in the back of a wardrobe to scare a fan of "The lion the witch and the wardrobe" then Russell is your guy.
I have always enjoyed watching stand up and happily spend many evenings with the other half, falling asleep giggling to something silly. My favourite comedians include, Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Jim Davidson, Lee Evans and Tim Minchin.

If you have never seen Russell Howard before or seen any of his material, I can only describe him as being hysterically funny with a boyish charm. His youthful physical appearance, accompanied by a very cheeky grin really add to the already funny material he produces. He is very active and almost hyper on stage. He comments at one point in the show that he has mild A.D.D (attention deficit disorder) and I must say, I am in full agreement. He pours energy into all of his stories and quips, being very visual and expressing a lot of scenarios with flailing arms and silly expressions. He slightly remind me of Lee Evans in this way, only Lee does it to a larger scale.
Its hard to comment really on a comedian as everybody has their own individual tastes and humour.
Besides the non stop energy in the show and the quality material, Russell also interacts with his audience a lot, which really make you as a viewer feel involved and as such, the atmosphere of a hall full of people laughing, is extended into your living room. Making the experience all the more enjoyable. The full main set last roughly just an hour.
This DVD is rated 15 as there is swearing and sexual/religious/violent content.
The DVD itself is filmed live at the Bloomsbury theatre and all lighting and sound is typical of a live DVD, doing the job fine. The cover is a very typical stand-up comic cover, There is a large picture of Russell and all the certificate details along with his name and the show name in large white bold font.
The DVD also features an extra in the form of tour footage, This section follows Russell around as he travels to the different places on his tour, including backstage footage and interviews. It is not that long and probably isn't something you would watch twice.
Overall, I am glad I have found this new comedian to enjoy and I am looking forward to any new material. I am also slightly shocked that I have gone so long without watching "Mock the Week" which Russell features on in nearly every episode.
This DVD is a fantastic introduction to Russell Howard and portrays his style. There is only one way to really know if you will find a comedian funny, and thats to watch it and I for one suggest you do.
Advantages: good manic comedy Disadvantages: none really
...this guy was funny.
Russell Howard is another comedian that has got his name about a bit through Channel 4's 'So You Think You're Funny' which goes to show that if you are actually any good - you might just get somewhere off of the back of it!
Since then, he has been on TV quite a bit on shows like Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Would I Lie To You and Live at The Appollo, which until recently was hosted by Jack Dee.
To be honest, when it comes to comedians ... ...Jimmy Carr, Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran and Jack Dee and not really allowing anyone else to amuse me in the slightest...however this little skinny Bristolian messed it all up as I thought he was brilliant.
From the word go it is like someone has pressed the on button located at the back of his head and released him from where he has been on charge for the last 72 hours.
It is amazing the amount of energy as he almost runs around the stage in excitement ...

...about in all probability.
Russell Howard is a comedian who I first saw (as I am sure many people did on his appearances on Mock the Week) and after seeing his appearances on Mock the Week I liked his style of comedy and believed that his live show would be brilliant as he seems to be a comedian with a very quick thought process which can lead to some amazing audience interaction and so I decided I had to give his live stand up show a chance and ... ...being so big throughout as Russell just delivers the laughter perfectly time and again. Russell Howard is a comedian who is so charming with his cheeky delivery that you start getting relaxed and feeling a real warmth towards this young, energetic, up-coming comedian and get really into the show but then it is all over...I thought this was a downfall of his dvd but in honesty it is because he is a comedian who you don't tire of.
With many comedians ...
