Ok I admit to being a fan of Jackie Chan but having watched his latest movie, Rush Hour 2, I don’t think I will be on my own.
This film starts off on a fast pace and just keeps on going. The action and laughs come thick and fast and I would think that the latest cinematic pairing of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have a way to go before they pass their sell by date.
For those of you that missed the original Rush Hour film it basically brought together Chan and Tucker as two cops from different backgrounds, Chan a Hong Kong Detective and Tucker a loud and confident USA Detective. They meet when Chan is sent to the USA in order to help with a kidnapping involving Triad Gang members.
As with most double Acts they don’t actually hit it off to start with but find themselves bringing out the best and the worst in each other. Chan is not only a fine martial arts actor but is funny with it. Tucker on the other hand is more of an out and out comic actor and the mix of action and comedy really blend well to serve up a treat of a movie.
Rush Hour 2 starts off in Hong Kong where Tucker visits Chan for a vacation and is looking forward to being shown a good time by his friend.
A bomb goes off in the American Embassy and the two find themselves being dragged into an investigation involving the top Triad Gang.
What follows is a non-stop action packed adventure with the laughs coming one after the other.
Whilst Chan proves once again that he is the master of the Martial Arts movie, Tucker shows a comic talent that is both refreshing and hilarious. The two men bounce off each other and the whole thing was a feast to behold.
The storyline is simple and easy to follow. The acting is first class and the comedy is laughing out loud type comedy. Mix in a whole bunch of Kung Fu type fights and you have a recipe for success.
Without spoiling the film for you, it moves from Hong Kong to Los Angeles and then to Las Vegas.
The comedy scenes in Hong Kong at the nightclub involving Karaoke and at the Massage Parlour show Tucker at his very best. Having said that Chan is good at the comic stuff as well although in a more subtle way.
My personal favourite was the Las Vegas scene where Tucker is playing on the crap table. This scene went on and on and was truly very funny.
Obviously like all things, some people will be put off when you mention Kung Fu. My advice is to go and give it a try, I doubt if you’ll be disappointed.
I’m already looking forward to Rush Hour 3
