Rush Hour is such a cool, funny and entertaining film which can be seen by family, friends and children too, the acting is good, the actors are funny and the storyline is well written.
Rush Hour is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. The transfer is flawless with little sign of dirt or grain. The colours are all soild. I dare you to find any faults.
As for the sound well there are Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 mixes. For an action film this is exactly what you'd expect-very lively throughout with clear dialogue and a good use of score.
The extras are the real reason to take a look at the dvd.
First up are two audio commentaries. The first is with Director Brett Ratner who is a very lively talker. He doesn't get too technical and recalls more of the lighter stories about making the film.
The film is produced by New Line Cinema and as dvd purists know this is the studio to beat when it comes to Region 1 dvd output.
The second is an isolated score track with comments from composer Lalo Schifrin in between cues. It's interesting stuff if you're into film scores like me.
The plot involves some chinese gangland thing with some stolen art. But who cares about that when Chan is kicking, flipping and stripping people with a deft hand and foot.
A making of feature follows next and runs for half an hour. Its actually very good and features very little self promotion of the movie. In fact it breaks down stunts and effects quite well. One part shows Chan planning out an elaborate fight scene.
The deleted scenes are very spectacular. They show scenes that are very funny and at the end of the film are clips that were suppose to be, you have to watch it to be honest.
Ratner comes from a music video background so also included are two pieces of his work. Namely Dru Hills 'How Deep Is Your Love?' from the film's soundtrack. There's also one for a Heavy D track that doesn't have much to do with the film. But yet again Ratner provides commentary for the videos.
Rounding out the dvd is the trailer and the usual cast/crew biographies as well as some dvd-rom features such as the screenplay, more info on Chan and Tucker and a few games.
This can be deemed a excellent action packed dvd and a good example of the benefits of a multi-region player.
