Just when you thought Simon Pegg's ego couldn't get any more inflated, he releases this steaming pile of dogsnot. Granted that his work is not usually lowbrow, Run Fatboy Run has no comedic merit whatsoever, includes no new ideas or concepts and is just downright not funny. Pegg has made and starred in some excellent shows and films in the past. His work on the modern, surrealist, European sketch-show Big Train gave new depth to english comedy. Shaun of the Dead spoofed the zombie genre before anyone else had chance to, Spaced was simply incredible, even his short performance in Black Books alongside Dylan Moran was hilarious. His integrity was visibly in decline after Hot Fuzz, a comedy film which seemingly TRIED to be crap! ...still this is the worst thing yet.
Dylan Moran's performance was also poor in this film, It was a novelty seeing him briefly in Shaun of The Dead, but he has already defined himself as the character Bernard Black, and not unintentionally. He deliberately plays almost the same drunken irishman in his stand up shows. This character has been damaged by seeing him act as a straght-man in a low-quality film suich as this, the entire plot of which is just an unfit Simon Pegg running around like a twat, interspersed with the occasionall chilly, awkward scene about his boring relationship. The entire premise is that he wants to run a marathon to impress his ex-girlfriend. One could only wonder how long it took to dream up such an epic.
Still, Run Fatboy Run was a commerical success, enjoying many DVD sales, but I still deem this movie unwatchable. I used to be a huge fan of Pegg until he started doing bollocks like this. Dont see this movie, and definitely dont buy it on DVD.
Summary: It isn't funny in the slightest.
