12-year-old Aaron Carter, the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick, No Authority and Jessica Simpson. On the other side, there are the established artists, who are true surprises. Sinead O'Connor? Cyndi Lauper? Isaac Hayes? So, it's a battle between bouncy pop with its hyperextended beats and clear skin and the ragged tone of world-worn former heroes. Things begin with a surprisingly mellow track from TLC's Tionne T-Boz Watkins (perhaps she can't figure which side of the fence to choose here). From there, the beats step up, and Aaron Carter, Baha Men and Jessica Simpson all deliver the kinds of catchy tunes you expect. Sinead O'Connor hasn't abandoned her sententious beginnings; even with the addition of hip-hop beats and a few random electronic noises, she still sounds as solemn as ever, whispering and singing softly. Former Spice Girl Gerri Halliwell updates Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots" without adding or subtracting much. A better novelty is Cyndi Lauper performing "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever", a sentimental tune perfectly suited for her emotive reach. --Rob O'Connor

If you have failed to catch the cartoon “The Rugrats” on BBC Television, ITV, BBC Choice, Nickelodeon or on any of the Videos that can be purchased, rented or stolen. Then you have missed out on a very important part of your intellectual growth. I jest not and I will try to expunge my reasons forthwith.

THE MAIN CHARACTERS
Tommy Pickles: Our hero, he has been described as being 6 months old but with Dill as a baby brother, I doubt his mother was that absent minded. He is the leader and all the other kids look to Tommy with hero worship status, especially Chuckie.
Dill Pickles: He was born in the First Movie, so I put him at about 4 months – 6 months old. Superb name! Dill’s only claim to fame thus far is his extraordinary passion for covering everything and I mean everything in very thick, gooey drool, lovely.
Chuckie Finster: Best mate to Tommy aged at about 2 years old. Chuckle’s mother is dead and he lives with his Dad, Chas. It is his ardent wish for his dad to find a new Mommy.
Angelica Pickles: Cousin to Tommy and Dill. Angelica is no angel. When there is trouble she generally is the cause. She is a spoilt brat, both her parents are High Powered business types. I remember one line in a show, where Dad says to Mon “The Fax is Broken”, and the mother replies, “Use the one in the upstairs bathroom”!!!!!
Phil and Lil: Friends to the Pickles Rugrat’s tribe. They are twins and eat worms, mud, left over vomit. Nothing unusual there then?
Stu Pickles: Dad to Tommy and Dill, husband to Dee-Dee.
Dee-Dee: Major absent minded mother of Tommy and Dill.
All of the children apart from Angelica cannot speak, that is to say that they cannot communicate with adults but they communicate easily with each other. Their imaginations give sway to an amazing array of comical predicament and in whole the movie is a Roller Coater Ride.
The opening scene sees Angelica and the other children in room adjacent to an ongoing Wedding Reception: Music from the Godfather is playing, Angelica sits masterfully, her hair combed back……….
After the wedding we see the Prehistoric Monster “Reptar” loose his head during a rehearsal for a theme park stage show in Paris. The boss a one despicably horrible and anti-child female named “Coco LaBouche”. She summons her private secretary “Kiri” to get the machines inventor Stu Pickles, his family and friends to Paris to fix the problem.
The plot further thickens when Coco must display her “mother” side to her Boss to enable her to become President of the Japanese Company that owns the Theme Park. This where Chuckie and his Dad come in.
Coco pursues Chuckies father to be her husband and therefore get her prize. He rest? No chance, you will have to watch the movie.
The overall story is interjected with humour for children and humour for adults. For only adults could understand some of it, the Godfather Scene for example. The writers have created a better film than the Rugrats first venture onto the big screen. The result is a heart warmingly funny and sad film. A family film without all the gushy, gushy gooey bits that I hate.
It has to be said that the creators of “Rugrats” have happened upon a magical formula for giving us both the adult “outside looking in” on the toddlers and their adventures whilst not knowing the half of it and the children “inside looking out” and frankly having a ball with their unusual communal imagination, were we ever like that?
One final comment regarding the whole Theme park concept: Why oh why would they want to put a Japanese Theme Park in Paris anyway? Personally I think it’s a great idea and some other Theme park outfit should think about it doing it soon!
Advantages: Great family fun Disadvantages: Tommy has a reduced role! He should get a better agent!
...with small children will know, Rugrats is a gem of a TV show; a cartoon that appeals to mum and dad as much as the children. It is intelligently written and always includes a few jokes just for the grown-ups without being suggestive. The first film, imaginatively entitled "Rugrats: The Movie", was a bit of a disappointment. After a hugely entertaining and very funny first fifteen minutes it degenerated into a plotless runaround that only young children ... ...‘villains’ in the series: Angelica. I’m glad to report that the inevitable sequel is more in the tradition of the best TV episodes.
For those of you unfamiliar with the format, the "rugrats" are the young children whose parent all live in the same neighbourhood. This movie actually clarifies some points for me, like the ages that the children are supposed to be. Chuckie is stated as being almost 2, and can’t quite ‘talk’ ...

Advantages: Well known characters, colourful, funny for the kids Disadvantages: Expensive tickets, limited story, boring for adults
After the first Rugrats movie, I swore never to go again. Guess what? Here I am, another holiday, another, ‘Can we go and see it mum?’ and off we trot to the cinema! Rugrats in Paris lasted 1 hour 15 minutes and is a U rating in the UK.
Despite enjoying the film, I still feel that it really suits a 20-minute cartoon slot better than it does a movie. I'm surprised that this is the second film because I thought that the first one would ... ...- but it wouldn't be Rugrats then, would it? In the first film, Tommy got a baby brother, Dill. This time, I'm pleased to say that Dill has been evolved and now 'babbles' the odd word or two. There is also the introduction of 'Susie' another baby on the block. My children were watching Rugrats on cable the other day and pointed out to me that Chucky's new mum was in the cartoon series along with his new sister, so it looks like the continuity from ...

Advantages: wonderfully told story that'll be a gem on video Disadvantages: woefully short on screen, and still has that "TV" feel of an episode.. you can just hear the tie ins coming...
...Only The Simpsons rivals the Rugrats in its consistently spot-on portrayal of modern American suburbia, seen from the inside out — and Rugrats drops its love bombs without being inappropriate for toddlers, and without resorting to postmodern absurdism. Indeed, toddlerhood is absurd enough, and the show's first spin-off movie, The Rugrats Movie, focused, as the show does, on the quotidian realms of diapers, misinterpreted adultisms, indiscriminate ... ...of peer socialization. Rugrats in Paris, on the other hand, veers too far from the Pickles' backyard to have much of an impact — but the rhythms, characterizations, and fish-eye perspectives are still at work. Suffice it to say that the animated munchkins lay waste to the City of Lights in pursuit of ice cream and justice, the frequent song interludes will distract the kids (but send the adults into comas), and the anti-Disney satire rages ...

...and the rest of the Rugrats in finding him a new mother. I feel they dwelled on his lack of a mother rather too much. At one point the Rugrats are on an aeroplane and Chuckie sees his mother’s face in the clouds. There are a couple of children I know who would have left the cinema in tears at this point. The rest of the film was classic Rugrats, though. Advantages: Bright colourful and a good story. Very funny whith several gags. Disadvantages: Predictable ending, but hey its a kids film.
...Well how did Rugrats fair, Well it certainly wasnt Disney, but it didnt have to be. This film was one of the best animated films I have seen in a long time. The children all have there own very individual characters, but the whole notion of finding Chuckie a 'mommy' is bound to appeal to kids in this day and age, where there is no such thing as mum, dad and 2.4 kids anymore. At one point my daughter was in tears, and i too felt very emotional when ... ...Im a convert to the Rugrats phenomenon after seeing this films. DVD Description
Based on the popular TV series RUGRATS, this animated film, RUGRATS IN PARIS: THE MOVIE, features a group of zany toddlers who, by chance, get to travel to Paris. The film takes a playful path through the uncomplicated plotline, beginning with a perfectly choreographed spoof on THE GODFATHER (replete with a sawed-off toy horse head), then launching into a series of upbeat songs narrating the story in styles ranging from rock and reggae to jazz and R&B. The story follows little Chuckie, who wants his single father to remarry so he can get a new mommy. Teased by his bossy friend Angela, Chuckie feels even worse about his situation. But when the father of his pal Tommy gets assigned to go to Paris on business, taking the whole Rugrats gang with him, things begin to change. From the bateaux mouches to the Arc de Triomphe, the Rugrats enjoy some valuable sightseeing, then descend upon Euroreptarland, a theme park located in the center of Paris. Along the way, Chuckie thinks up a perfect scheme for getting a new mom. With fun music and fast-moving graphics balancing out the obligatory jokes about diapers, babies' butts, and poop, RUGRATS IN PARIS: THE MOVIE will thrill fans of these wild toddlers.
