Advantages: Good film with an impressive ensemble cast Disadvantages: film's relationship with Navy businss
...******************************************************************
As many of you already know, I was in the United States Navy for 8 long years; in all that time, I had never seen a mutiny onboard a ship. However, I surely heard stories that they had happened before, particularly during World War II. I was on two ships during my Navy career, and even got to be stationed for 3 years in Newquay. When I left England in January of 2005, I reported onboard the U.S.S. Arleigh Burke out of Virginia; shortly after arriving, I met someone in my division who welcomed me onboard and even offered myself a place to stay at his apartment. We went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras shortly afterward, and naturally I decided to go out with this person while out on liberty; I drank very little, though he was practically drowning himself with alcohol. We had to get back to the ship by 0700, though by 0430 he was going...

Advantages: Good plot Disadvantages: Poor acting, poor budget
...Hellcats of the Navy was produced in 1957 and was directed by Nathan Juran (First Men In The Moon, Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad)
and was introduced by Chester W. Nimitz Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CINCPAC), which was in itself a rare thing, as 'Chesty' as he was known was not one for making a television appearance.
He said that it was important to show the public post war that the submarine / naval service was to be thanked for their help during both the Second World War, and he wanted to do it.
The other remarkable thing about this film, was the fact that it was the only film that starred Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis (David being her stage name, but of course was Reagan)
The story....
The film is based around a true incident that occurs in the Second World War, in the Tsushima Straits a heavily mined area of water...

Advantages: Deep sea comedy Disadvantages: If you want traditional then stay away

Even though there are many funny parts in this film, the funniest by far has to be when the submarine has been bottomed on the ocean surface and the whole crew have to be silent. I won't spoil it for anyone who has not seen it but I have never laughed so hard at a film when there have not been any sound just actions.
If anyone is like me and does not really enjoy watching war films then this film might be for you because it does not stick traditional Navy procedures and Dodge with the help from his crew spend most of the time pushing the rules to the limit.
This DVD is rated 12 as they are reference of a sexual nature and the film also includes some swearing. I think my partner bought...
