Didn't the British have something to do with the war?
Review of U-571 DVD by linzib

Advantages: Some good action moments
Disadvantages: boring

...The beginning of this film was the most boring I have had to sit through in a while! Things improve somewhat towards the middle half of the film as the war-action scenes take off. As Matthew McConaughey overpowers the crew of the crippled German submarine. The American's sub is destroyed, killing the captain and leaving the remaining Navy men to navigate the German's badly damaged submarine through unfriendly waters. This, then allows Matthew McConaughey the opportunity to prove to all that he is "captain" material as he delegates responsibility and risks the lives of his crew members turning from a friend of all the crew to a great leader willing to make the sacrifices necessary to succeed in his mission. Then as we all start to think "Didn't the British have something to do with rescuing the encoder?" They role a list of what... Read review

Review of Battle Of The River Plate DVD by pinkmatchstick

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...Released in 1956, this film tells the true story of the battle which was the Royal Navy's first victory of World War II. In December 1939 three cruisers, Exeter, Ajax and Achilles, under the command of Commodore Henry Harwood, were sent to intercept the German pocket battleship Graf Spee which had been sinking Allied merchant shipping in the South Atlantic. After a fierce gunfight off the coast of Uruguay, the Graf Spee retired to the nearby port of Montevideo for repairs. As Uruguay was officially a neutral country much diplomatic manouvering took place, first to hold the Graf Spee in harbour, then Allied propaganda broadcast that a powerful force was waiting for her should she come out to fight (in fact there were no other Royal Navy ships avaliable). Fooled by the British messages, Graf Spee sailed out along... Read review

You can sail the seven seas, in the Navy
Review of Down Periscope (Wide Screen) by kgray71

Advantages: Deep sea comedy
Disadvantages: If you want traditional then stay away

...in this film is just as good, the same dry comedy. Rob Schneider who has made films such as The Hot Chick and The Animal, he has also appeared in many of the Adam Sandler films as well, gives a good performance of a wired officer who follows that hand book like a religion, which results in him being thrown overboard. All the cast give an excellent performance and their chemistry is there as well which always adds to your backing behind the characters emotions. Extras How very disappointing, there are no extras on this DVD not even the music video that accompanies the film (Village People, In The Navy). However this does appear at the end of the film if any wants to watch it. Your options are play movie, scene selection and subtitles. Overview = This film you make you look at the Royal Navy in a completely different light, maybe... Read review
