...to the fire station and Roxanne a beautiful visiting Astronomer who he immediately falls for.
C.D is charming, athletic and intelligent and is liked by all; in fact he should be a great catch for any woman the only problem is his self consciousness about the length of his nose. It certainly is not something that can be ignored and all the people of the community have learnt to avoid making any references to it. Unfortunately the newcomers are unaware ... ...has taken a liking to Roxanne unaware of C.D's own feelings for her CD agrees to help him woo her. This is something he secretly wishes to do himself but doesn't give himself any chance because of his looks. In order to express his real feelings for her C.D is prepared to help Chris and let him take the credit. This is brilliantly illustrated during a Romeo and Juliet type balcony scene with a difference. The situation becomes ever more ludicrous ...

HEY, BIG NOSE! Review ofRoxanne (Wide Screen)by
L.Yeomans
Advantages: Hilarious. Steve Martin is brilliant! Disadvantages: It's over to quick at only 107 mins
...He meets a lady, Roxanne (Daryl Hannah) on duty as she is locked out of her house. He performs some amazing acrobatics (which are all done by Steve),gets into the house through an open window and unlocks the door. She is not only beautiful but interesting to him as she is astronomer. She tells about a discovery of a comet, Comet Kowalski. He instantly falls for her. He is in love. An obsticle gets in the way though. A guy named Chris is recruited ... ...CD be able to tell Roxanne how he feels or will his nose get in the way? There are so many funny scenes in this film, it's hard to pick a favourite. I think it has to be the insult scene at the local pub. CD, having this big nose, is obviously used to getting a few insults from time to time. You almost pity the stupid drunk guy who decides to pick on CD that night. He may have been drunk and stupid but he didn't really deserve the kind of humiliation ...

Advantages: Witty combination of comedy and romance, one of Martin's most charming performances Disadvantages: Maybe a little too lightweight for some, and also if you are not a fan of Martin, you might want to steer clear
...meets the beautiful and talented Roxanne (one of Daryl Hannah's loveliest performances), he wants to woo her but holds back, particulary when she takes an interest in a new "stud" (a well cast Rick Rossovich) that has come into town. Only problem is this good-looking but nice guy can't talk to women (he vomits after he first sees Hannah, lol) and begs Martin to "front" for him...writing letters and poetry, even go so far as accompanying him on the ... ...his heart...only to lose Rossovich to Hannah when she thinks the latter had said everything. One of those many romantic comedies where it's central theme is personality is far more important than looks, and it achieves that mostly due to the wonderful performances; Shelley Duvall is great as Martin's best friend who owns a little restaurant, and John Kapelos is a particular laugh as a goof-off who likes to use such pick-up lines as "June '85...I ...

Small-town fire chief C.D. Bales (Steve Martin, in a wonderfully skillful verbal and physical performance) is an extraordinary man with an extraordinary nose. Astronomer Roxanne Kowalski (Daryl Hannah) has just come to his town of Nelson, Washington in order to get away from the city and to get a clearer view of a comet she is tracking. When both Bales and a handsome-but-slow fireman fall in love with Roxanne, Bales supplies the words while the other supplies the kisses. Includes a great cast of small-town characters played by among others, Michael J. Pollard and Shelley Duvall.
