Roustabout, is another one of Elvis Presley better films, He plays a young motorbike-riding singer Charlie Roger, living hand to mouth, earning a living in small bars and clubs etc:
Charlie is a wherever I lay my hat, type of guy who is not looking for anything steady or permanent, as long as his belly is full and his bike keeps on running he's happy.
This is where the problem arises, Charlie gets into an accident with a Carnival boss, and his motorbike is in need of repair, He is offered a job on the Carnival until it is repaired.
The Carnival is in disarray, with financial problems mounting, dwindling customers and the bank wanting to close them.
Charlie (Elvis) soon has the place back on tracks, using his charm and of course wowing the local girls with his looks and singing.
Maggie Morgan (Barbara Stanwyck) is the Carnival owner, has a young daughter Cathy, and pretty soon Cathy and Charlie are falling for each other.
All this attracts the unwelcome attention of a rival Carnival owner, and a plan to lure Charlie away from them is hatched, with the aid of College girl Rachel Welch and the offer of big money to be made.
But Charlie is an open roader, a loner, will he stay? Will he get the Carnival up and running? And does love blossom? Or is it just another carnival ride?
Enjoyable good fun to watch, with some good acting and great songs and romance, and Elvis is usual hip shaking self, who could ask for more?
Songs include, Hard Knocks, One Track Heart and It's A Wonderful World.
