In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the BBC broadcast a series of television programmes ... more
called Railway Roundabout, featuring train lines which proved to be on the point of closure and locomotives that were about to disappear forever. This archive film footage has been transformed by Ian Allan and is now available as nine separate Railway Roundabout DVDs, all superbly recreating the lost age of steam! Most of the programmes were British but a number dealt with railways in Europe ranging from Finland to Yugoslavia. This fascinating DVD takes in scenes filmed by Patrick Whitehouse in Northern Europe. Featuring the very best of French steam (Cotes du Nord, Reseau Breton, Vivarais, P.O. Correze and main line Pacifics), steam trains in Rotterdam, main line steam in Germany, the beautiful rack and narrow gauge railways in Switzerland and the best of Finnish steam, featuring the route from Helsinki to the Arctic Circle.

and has ruined the image of Mr Bean for me. At first I was curious and quite excited - I had hoped the comedy would be on the same lines as the original but I was wrong.
The soundtrack is mostly orchestral with symbols, drums and flutes to emphasise dramtic turn arounds and Beans thoughts. The vocals, as the televised original series is basically mumbles and whimpers with the odd 'ooooo' sound. Another thing that irritates me is the fact that they have tried to modernise him and have given him a girl friend, not that that ever get together, lord no, what would happen to teddy, where would he sleep!? Irma Gobb is more a romantic interst whom Bean tries to impress, but rarely suceeds.
In this single DVD volume you get 8 episodes, each lasting about 15minutes in length and include; 'In The Wild', 'Missing Teddy', 'No Parking', 'Bean's Bounty ...
Advantages: great music, acting and storyline Disadvantages: only two episodes on this one dvd, and they cut the tune!
Isn't it wonderful when those child hood memories come back to you, and whats even better is when they are in snazzy updated (graphics and sound wise anyway) version, such as this dvd.
Fraggle rock, as most can remember was another genius creation from Jim Henson. For those out of the loop, or are lucky enough to be too young to remember, he's the same man who is responsible for the existence of the muppets, sesame street and of course - the fraggles!

Obviously times have changed since the 1960s (yes it was that long ago) when the Magic Roundabout was first broadcast. This version shows how much things have changed.
Dougal (Robbie Williams) crashes a bike into the Magic Roundabout. This releases the evil Zeebad (Tom Baker) after 10.000 years imprisonment. Not only that, poor Florance (Kylie Minogue) gets trapped in ice.
