I certainly wouldn't call myself fat, but since having my daughter 3 months ago, I have some bulges in places I would rather not have them and I cannot quite fit into all of my old clothes.
I decided to use a fitness DVD because I haven't got the time or money to join a gym and I felt that a DVD fitness programme would be something that I could fit around my daughter and do when she is sleeping.
When I went into the shop to choose a fitness DVD, however, I was over-whelmed with the choice and to be honest, I didn't really know where to begin. I chose the Rosemary Conley DVD because the thought of 'getting back into those jeans' as advertised on the front of the case, was really my aim. Also, the information on the case seemed to imply that the DVD would be at my level and fun to use. I think it cost about £15, which initially is an expense, but far cheaper than the gym!!
So far , I have only used the DVD a couple of times, so I can't really say how well the exercises are working. I can feel my muscles working, however, when I'm doing the routines and I work up a sweat, so I guess there must be some calories burning!!
I am definitely enjoying the routines on the DVD. Although Rosemary Conley might appear to be a fitness instructor who would appeal to an older generation, the routines are fun to do and they are accompanied by some modern and more classic songs, which I enjoy listening to.
The DVD is divided into three exercise sections: ** 30 minutes of aerobics ** 20 minutes of Salsacise **15 minutes of supertoning
It is easy to pick and choose which section or sections to complete as each one has its own warm up, cool down and stretches. Personally, my favourite section is the salsacise, as it is something a little different to things I've tried in the past. Each section has a countdown timer, which I think is a good feature; it lets you know how much exercise time is left, which is a good incentive to keep going. It's surprising just how quickly the time counts down.
On the DVD, Rosemary is joined by 4 members of the public who have all used her diet and fitness programme. There is a section on the DVD that explains just how much weight loss they have each achieved and some 'before and after' shots. I like this use of 'normal' people, as it helps you to feel that you can achieve the fitness results also.
Rosemary talks you through each routine as it is being performed and there are different levels to follow. There is a tuition section to help you to learn the salsa moves, but to be honest, I have not used this and yet I've been able to pick up the salsa moves quite easily. All of the routines are easy to follow.
I would rate the exercises as being suited to beginner / intermediate levels of fitness. There are ways to make each routine slightly harder, which are shown by people on the DVD. Although fun to do, I feel that the exercises would not motivate someone with a more advanced fitness level.
The only equipment needed is a chair for the toning exercises and a mat or towel to lay on if you're working on a hard floor.
The DVD also includes a short section on nutritional advice to help you to choose the best foods to enhance weight loss. I do believe there is also a book to accompany the DVD, but I have not bought this.
This is a fun fitness programme, which is easy to use and follow. All three routines only take just over an hour to complete or the toning section alone provides a good, daily 15 minute exercise.
I will let you know how I get on with the toning and weight loss!!
