Just after Christmas I had planned on buying Coleen Nolan's fitness DVD, 'Brand New You', with Rosemary Conley. However I had spotted Coleen's newer fitness DVD, 'Disco Burn', and thought that was more up my street. Having loved that DVD though I recently purchased Brand New You, ready to give it a try after the success with the other.
The workout on Brand New You is split into seven sections, lasting a total of 1hr and five minutes. The first workout is a short warm up, appropriately to get your body warmer and ready for what is to come. It is a mix of marches and side steps with some stretches thrown in to really prepare yourself for the routine.
Section two is the fat burner, which lasts for ten minutes. You are put through your paces with an aerobic workout, consisting of jumps, brisk walking and intense movement. Section three, lasting another ten minutes, also burns fat with its aerobics, but mainly works on toning the hips and waist. You will do various lunges and stretches here mixed in with more walking and movement.
Section four and five are each ten minutes long, and work
at toning your body. Through various stretches and lunges you are able to feel the stretch in your body as you become more toned, and continue to burn calories. By section six, we have moved onto the floor, where you will do a lot of stretching and balancing, toning your abs and upper body. After this ten minute routine you go to the final section, which is the cool down. Each section has a mini cool down at the end, but if you have done the whole routine it is important that you finish it off with this one. This one is done both on the floor and standing up, and will relax you and slowly cool you down as you come to the end of the workout.
As a routine I quite enjoyed this work out. There is something special in it with the fact that you do not feel tired or out of breath at any point, but you can feel your body workout out at the same time. The movements are not overly challenging, but there are three other girls there doing different levels of the same movement so there is always one you can follow to suit your personal abilities. Time passed by quite quickly I felt, and another thing I loved with this was that each of the seven sections had a countdown clock on the screen so you were able to tell at a glance how long you had left before it was time to move onto the next section. I thought this was quite handy as it stopped you from wanting to give up, seeing the numbers decreasing constantly.
Rosemary Conley: I was not familiar with any of Rosemary Conley's work until now, so I wasn't too sure what to expect. She is quite different from any other fitness instructor on my fitness DVDs, not as outgoing. She didn't laugh at all, which is a little disappointing - I like harmless banter on the DVDs. As a person she is not an enjoyable fitness trainer, but I do like her routines so must credit her for that.
Coleen Nolan: I adore Coleen Nolan. She's a fantastic singer and a wonderful TV Presenter, and now she's an amazing inspiration for anybody wanting to lose weight. Other than the fifteen minute interview at the end of the DVD, Coleen does not speak throughout. She talks on Disco Burn, which is nice, but with this she says not a word and that was a little disappointing, but not a reason to not try it. It is still great fun and she is still there doing the routine.
Diet: With the DVD, I was surprised to find a little booklet with meal plans - foods you can eat, when best to eat them and little recipes to for some pasta and fish dishes. Although I am not going to personally follow the plan, I do find it a nice idea and I am sure it will be great for anybody wishing to try it.
Cover: The cover of the DVD is striking. There is a picture of Coleen at her heaviest, looking frumpy and miserable. Then aside it, we can see a much slimmer Coleen, over four stone lighter, in a little red and white polka dot bikini. It is definitely an eye catcher for sure, certain to draw you in.
Music: Music in a fitness DVD is quite important, as it is the part that allows you to move more to the rhythm. The music here is quite quiet and not something that sticks in your head so for me it did not play a big part, unlike Disco Burn where many of the tracks are actually Nolan songs - much more lively and upbeat. Nonetheless it is still good background noise.
Price: When the DVD was first released, it was almost £20. However I recently bought this one from HMV.com for just £7 - a bargain of a price! I was thrilled and jumped at the chance when I noticed how cheap it was. It is also around the same price on Amazon.co.uk. If you find it for that price, it is definitelly well worth it!
Although I prefer Disco Burn, this is still an entertaining and fun DVD that is motivating and going to keep you fit. It has many benefits and is definitely worth a try.
