Jet Li has finally broke into the mainstream American industry. It was a hard struggle for him and although he is no longer young he is still a little younger than the man Chan and his style of acting and wushu is so drastically different that you can not compare the two people by anything else but age.
When I first saw the trailer of this movie I was very excited. As with most of Jets movies (you MUST see Fong Sai Yuk 1&2 even if it is for the amazing sword fight at the end of the second one), this movie seemed to have a decent story line. The trailer projected the movie as a descendant of Romeo and Juliet but Romeo Must Die is not anything like it in reality. The only comparisons these two movies share is that they are very losely based on each other, two gangs fighting etc.
The actors list is quite immense and among them are some faces you may have seen before, most commonly being of course DMX and Aaliyah as they burst from their singing carreers to have a taste on the action film market.
Jet Li is well known for his wire work and combined with Joel Silver and the same effects team that handled the Matrix, Romeo must Die certainly is no exception and Jet kicks round with almost superhuman powers but they do have a boundary and thats what I like. The cables and effects are just there to emphasise the impact of a blow and the speed and finesse of Jet.
Just because this is an action film doesnt mean there arent any lines that you may remember, there are loads along with scenes that you remember and the acting throughout is extremely professional and well done. If you want a break from Chans fun antics and want a serious film, hit this.
As Jet is signed up for the matrix 2, I believe that that will be the real stunner of his career but this is a very nice stop mark.

Advantages: good story/acting, excellent soundtrack, bursting with special features Disadvantages: *slight* predictability though not too much to put you off the movie itself. Game on PC enhancement not worth playing.
