The story is based around the fictional Princess Ann (played by Audrey Hepburn) who is visiting Rome, and feels the need (while under the influence of tranquilisers!) to break free of her confines. She meets American journalist Joe Bradley (portrayed by Gregory Peck) who, along with photographer Irving Radovish (played by Eddie Albert) take Princess Ann or 'Smitty' around Rome to see the sights. While Princess Ann believes she has deceived them and is enjoying a normal holiday, Bradley is planning to publish his interview and Radovish is taking photographs of the Princess acting like a common person. However, this all goes wrong when she and Bradley fall in love. It's a charming, heart-warming romantic story - and Audrey Hepburn plays an utterly believable Princess due to her style and elegance.
The collector's edition DVD is well worth purchasing if you enjoy extra features, as it has a myriad of them. This edition features the theatre and re-release trailers, a few short features related to Roman Holiday and photo galleries. It also has subtitles in English, Bulgarian, Czech, Dutch, French, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Slovenian, Swedish, Arabic, Croat, Danish, French, German, Hebrew, Icelandic, Norwegian, Portugese, Serbian, Spanish and Turkish.

Advantages: classic example of old Hollywood romance Disadvantages: soundtrack could be more memorable and enhance the imagery of the film more.
This film was produced by one of Hollywoods most skilled producers- William Wyler and has already receieved ten Academy Awards. Whether you personally enjoy this film or not, the world of critics definitely do!
Personally, I love this film! In RomanHoliday my favourite actress, Audrey Hepburn, is the beatuiful protagonist and the epitome of poise and elegance as royalty on a tour of Europe. Her immaculate facade diminishes however when she is alone, leading her lonely and unhappy life which has always been concentrated on pre-organised engagements such a galas and garden parties. Yet, upon visiting Rome, the princess created her very own holiday and within just twenty four hours we see her exciting and infatuating adventure.
Beyond the claustrophobic confines of her royal position she leaves the Palace grounds. She falls asleep ...
Advantages: Audrey Hepburn at her most attractive, charming story Disadvantages: A bit slushy at times
't like black and white films - personally I think it should be left as it is.
If I have to criticise the film, it is that the storyline is completely silly, and if you're not prepared to overlook that fact, then you're not going to enjoy it. And it is overly slushy at times - most people these days are way too cynical to accept this level of romance. However, as a bit of mindless escapism, it is hard to go wrong here, and after all, it really doesn't pretend to be anything else. And the ending isn't anywhere near as bad as it could have been.
I can't see many men being all that enamoured of RomanHoliday (at least not publicly!), unless they are a fan of Audrey Hepburn, but I think most women will love it. It is a classic for a reason - it really has stood the test of time. So if you haven't seen it yet, look out for it, it is ...
This charming comedy is justly famous as the film that made the whole world fall in love with Audrey Hepburn and half the world want to run out and buy a Vespa scooter. Hepburn was always beguiling, but in some of her later roles she tended to overplay the winsomeness. Here every note she hits is just about perfect.
And speaking of notes, pay special attention to the score by the great Georges Auric. Auric's complex, vibrant, evocative music complements the story's inherent lyricism without upstaging it. In an era of bombastic film scoring, this seems a miracle.
Someone once said that Audrey Hepburn's was the beauty of possibility and transformation - she was always in motion, always becoming something else. "RomanHoliday" is very much of a piece with that notion. On the surface, the film is about a princess who disguises herself ...
