an article I read, Janet was named the second most successful recording artist of the 1990s. I don't find this hard to believe but I still think she is perhaps not as famous or successful (or should I can iconic) as other female artists such as Madonna or Mariah Carey who I think it would be fair to compare her with. Jackson is ranked by Billboard magazine as one of the top ten best-selling music artists in the history of contemporary music, having sold over 100 million albums worldwide. The Recording Industry Association of America lists her as the eleventh best-selling female artist in the United States, with 26 million certified albums.
My favourite album of hers is Design of a Decade 1986/1996, so called because it spans a decade of her work. I like it because it's a compilation album and contains some of her. It's probably best described as ...
Advantages: Interesting Disadvantages: Not enough of the "old" history of the East end
the "Moseleyite" Brown shirt marches, the dreadful war years, the 1950s, and 1960s and 1970s, but, of course, does not really deal with the history of the East End, but it does touch briefly (very, very briefly) on some of the heroes of the East End, including General Booth founder of the Salvation Army.
This programme is not a real vision of the East End Through the Ages, but a partial view of certain aspects of the East End.
Can I recommend it, however? Yes, I can. For even though the programme is flawed, it is still a good insight into some aspects of the East of yesterday and of today.
It should cost about a tenner.

Advantages: Possibly the best tenor saxophonist ever - without a doubt the best still alive! Disadvantages: None - if you want to see him live, you should try to soon - he's getting on a bit now - 73 yrs old now - still as good as ever though!
Sonny Rollins is my favourite tenor saxophonist, and is in my opinion the best saxophonist ever. Sonny has a lovely deep, rich tone, right the way from the bottom of his horn to the top. Like many of the great jazz musicians, Sonny was not only a great player, but also a great composer, having written loads of tunes, including St Thomas, Tenor Madness, Doxy, Oleo, Airegin, to name but a few.
Sonny Rollins has recorded many famous C.D.'s, but perhaps his best two, and my favourite are saxophone colossus and tenor madness (featuring a stunning recording of tenor madness with coltrane and rollins playing together!) Both of these C.D's feature Sonny Rollins in full swing, at the top of his playing, with his classic tone and characteristic phrasing and solo's.
Throughout his life, Sonny Rollins had a chance to play and record ...
