...released short story "The rollerball murders" this film became legendary for it's violence and the fact that several stuntmen died during it's filming. In fact, no one did die and compared to today's standards, this is not a particularly violent film. Even of it's decade, "Taxi Driver" far surpassed it in this respect.
What makes it so shocking is that, just like "A Clockwork Orange" it tackles the issue of violence head on and especially, the issue ... ...of corporations rather than nations, Rollerball is the food for the masses to sate their appetite for blood and , even more importantly, to show the futility of individual endeavour. Players are well rewarded but expected to die young.
Rollerball is a massively bloody spectacle involving a circular rink, bikers, skaters and a very fast moving steel ball.
