After one day with the kids, however, jail doesn't look half bad.Surrounded by annoying do-gooders, Danny struggles with his every neurotic impulse to guide Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) through the trials of becoming a man. Unfortunately, the guy just dumped by his girlfriend (Elizabeth Banks) has only sarcasm to offer a bashful 16-year-old obsessed with medieval role play.Meanwhile, charming Wheeler tries to trade in an addiction to partying and women to assist a fifth-grader named Ronnie (Bobb'e Thompson) redirect his foul-mouthed ways. It would probably help if Ronnie's new mentor wasn't an overgrown adolescent whose idea of quality time includes keggers in Venice Beach.Once the center's ex-con director (Jane Lynch) gives them an ultimatum, Danny and Wheeler are forced to tailor their brand of immature wisdom to their charges. And if they can just make it through probation without getting thrown in jail, the world's worst role models will prove that, sometimes, it takes a village idiot to raise a child.

These unlikely role models are assigned to the most difficult children on offer, making them contemplate jail as an easier option! nothing compared to spending 150 hours in acommunity mentorship program after they trash the company truck andfind themselves at the mercy of the court in this comedy starringSeann William Scott and Paul Rudd. Wheeler (Scott) and Danny (Rudd)wouldn't necessarily be the first people a parent would turn towhen seeking out a babysitter, in fact, they probably wouldn't evenmake the list in the first place. After slamming a few too manyMinotaur energy drinks and crashing the company truck, however, thetwo loose-living pals narrowly avert jail when the court decides tolet them become mentors to a group of young misfits. But how is therecently dumped Danny supposed to help bashful, role-playing geekAugie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) become a man when all he can offerthe boy is bitter sarcasm, and is beer-chugging man-child Wheelerreally the best choice to help foul-mouthed fifth-grader Ronnie(Bobb'e J. Probablynot, but they'll have to do their best anyway when the center'sex-con director (Jane Lynch) confronts them with a harsh ultimatum. Now, if Wheeler and Danny can just make it through the rest oftheir probation without getting tossed in jail, maybe there's hopefor the boys -- and Danny's relationship with his fed-up girlfriend(Elizabeth Banks) -- after all.

So, Role Models, the latest in a long line of comedies from the directing alliance of Greg Apatow and David Wain, a familiar role call of young comic talent on show that you have seen in quite a few movies of late. Where as the slobby stoner gets the girl movies like Knocked Up and the dire Pineapple Express with Seth Rogan have become tiresome, the more charismatic guys like Paul Rudd and Jason Segel (from Knocked Up) have been more engaging on screen in the lead in films like this and ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, even making Russell Brand tolerable. Pretty much everyone in this film has been in most of the other Apatow/Wain movies, loyalty to that cast at the centre of the movies dominance and success in the genre, the days of Saturday Night Live being the comedy conveyor belt to Hollywood long since gone.
This new breed of Sassy Jewish humour is good stuff though and I have enjoyed more movies than I have disliked from the Apatow/Wain collaboration, Role Models comfortably in the three out of five date movie safe zone. There’s rom come for the girls and naughty boys doing silly things from the guys in this one and enough little giggles for you not to get bored. I was surprised to see the less than subtle talents of Sean William Scott in this type of film and even more shocked that he was actually quite likeable here, the sign of quality comic writing and good directing to achieve such a transformation. How ghastly was he in American Pie!

-The Plot-
Wheeler (Sean William Scott) and apathetic Danny (Paul Rudd) are a couple of slackers dragging along in a dead end job, selling an energy drink,’ Minotaur’, to school kids across the nation, Wheeler dressing up as the said mythical beast during their demonstrations. But Danny’s irrationally pretty and important lawyer girlfriend Beth (Elizabeth Banks) is tired of his whining and has just dumped him after he has just dumped the Minotaur truck into a school fountain after a set too with a toe truck, earning a court appearance and possible jail time. He’s basically bored of living and that has cost him his relationship. Wheeler, on the other hand, is far easier going and as the job helps him to meet hot school teachers and so get laid he isn’t bothered about his lot, the ‘Stiffler’ still not grown up yet (in film roles too).
To avoid prison after their dangerous driving antics they are sent to ‘Sturdy Wings’, a community service outfit that pairs offending adults with troubled kids, their job to be mentors to the kids, but often the other way around, of course, the prelude to the many comic situations to come. Rumbustious Gayle Sweeny (Jane Lynch), a reformed drug, sex and alcohol addict, runs the scheme, pairing Wheeler with 10-year-old hyper active Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson), a mini Chris Rock with ADD, whilst Danny is paired with Augie Farks (Christopher Mintz-Plasse- a.k.a ‘McLovin’), a geeky loner obsessed with L.A.R.P. (Live action role-play), preferring to dress up as a hobbit at weekends than do normal stuff like sports or chasing girls.
Gayle Sweeny: ‘Watch your language, Ronnie’. Ronnie Shields: ‘My language is English and this motherf***er tried to grab my junk. Honky wanted a fistful of my balls!’
Sweeney is a hard taskmaster and if they don’t play ball and work with these kids its back to jail, no chance for Danny to win back Beth and for Wheeler to meet girls, and the kids well aware of that conundrum, Ronnie particularly keen to make the most of that and so make Wheelers life hell with his manic antics. But, inevitably, the adults begin to bond with the kids, realising its time to be adults and actually grow up, the kids actually acting like kids. But will this actually help Danny win back Beth?
“Gayle Sweeny: Me and the judge have a special relationship... I don't wanna get too graphic but I sucked his dick for drugs”
-The Conclusion-
Like its stable mate in Forgetting Sarah Marshall this is amiable fun, really refreshing to get away from that macho puerile stoner humour and give a different audience a taste of the new comedy revolution, Paul Rudd engaging in the lead. Yes its Sean William Scott doing the same old obnoxious act but its more effective because its tempered by Rudd and co`s more subtle comedy talents, a contrast that works well. Pocket dynamite in little Bobb'e J. Thompson as Ronnie is comfortably the star of the movie and the driver for most of the films jokes, enjoying great chemistry with Scott, an apt foil for the opposite dynamic between Rudd and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
The disruptive kids with likewise adults is safe ground for obvious comedy and the guys come up with enough good jokes to keep things moving along, driving around in a Dumb and Dumber comedy style truck an open comedy goal to keep scoring in. The films not intellectually challenging in any way and will appeal to all ages from young adults and up, as many slapstick gags as verbal ones to enjoy. The writing isn’t exceptional, playing on the main characters weaknesses for laughs, race, sexuality and ageism neatly side-stepped, this new breed of politically correct comedy a sad necessity these days. But what this does do is deliver just enough to justify the rent and remind you that American comedy films aren’t always about college road trips and Friends actors getting dumped.

ROLE MODELS - Film Only Review After seeing many trailers on TV lately I decided to take my partner to see Role Models at our local cinema. Being one of the Box Office hits this month I didn't think I would be disappointed. PLOT

Sean William Scott even though still uses his 'Stifler' ways just like in American Pie uses his comedy well to make a great character. He is still like a little boy himself so he can connect with Ronnie really well. I was also impressed with the character of Augie. After watching his performance in Superbad I noticed he starred in this film so wanted to see what ...

Advantages: fantastic storyline and special effects Disadvantages: slightly long
In my opinion Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone is an excellent film. The transition from book to film has been done with outstanding accuracy. The special effects throughout the film are spectacular without being ridiculous. The characters are easy to relate to and are not portrayed as being unrealistic and therefore becoming untrue rolemodels for today's children. The moral thread running through the film makes this a great one for the impressionable youngster without it being at all boring. The film left the kids open mouthed in amazement and the adults wanting to relive their childhoods by opening the door to the magical world within Hogwarts doors. This film will make every viewer want to enroll at Hogwarts now! ...

A broad but satisfying multiplex comedy (Hollywood Reporter, 24/11/2008)
DVD Description
Director David Wain (WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER) capably mixes the saucy and the sentimental in the bawdy boys-to-men comedy ROLE MODELS. Stuck-in-a-rut Danny Donahue (Paul Rudd) and womanizing man-child Wheeler (Seann William Scott) work together promoting Minotaur energy drink to high school students. But when Danny's girlfriend Beth (Elizabeth Banks) dumps him because he lacks maturity, his lashing out threatens to land him and Wheeler in jail. Their only way out is to act as mentors at Sturdy Wings, a Big Brother-esque organization run by reformed addict--and unrepentant flirt--Gayle Sweeny (Jane Lynch). There, Danny is paired with the decidedly dorky Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) while Wheeler is the latest victim to take on foul-mouthed Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson). After a bumpy beginning, both Danny and Wheeler connect with their kids over everything from sword-and-sorcery role playing to the chick-scoring power of the band Kiss. But when these two presumptive adults put their charges' well-being in jeopardy, they face both jail time and the loss of everyone's respect. With their own friendship on the brink of ruin, Danny and Wheeler--not to mention a little help from the magic of Kiss--must reach deep inside to prove to the world how responsible they can truly be. In the spirit of films like KNOCKED UP and THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN, ROLE MODELS features a healthy dose of sharp humour and juvenile gags balanced by a feel-good message that growing up doesn't mean giving up what makes each of us special.
