The Storyline. ------------------------- After his fight with Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has problems with his sight from the punches Apollo gave him. After his recovery, he is released from hospital he promises Adrian (Talia Shire) that he will not fight again. He proposes to Adrian and the couple are soon married in a small church wedding, soon after Adrian becomes pregnant and the couple are over the moon. Rocky starts spending the money he earned from his fight with Apollo on fancy clothes, cars and a home for him and Adrian. He does not seem to care what he spends as he is convinced that he will make money in the up coming adverts he has planned due to his fame from the fight.
When the time comes to shoot the adverts for aftershave Rocky soon discovers that he is not cut out for this type of work, as he is unable to read from the dummy cards due to his inability to read properly. Rocky quits the promotion after and argument with the director but still is not worried as he is convinced he will get an office job because of his fame. This dream of Rocky's is soon crushed as nobody will employ him due to his lack of qualifications and he soon finds himself working on a temporary basis back at the meat factory down by the docks.
Things seem to go for bad to worse and soon Rocky is forced to sell his car to his brother-in-law Paulie (Burt Young) as he desperately needs money. Soon this money is gone as is Rocky's temporary job and pressure is put on him even more as Apollo Creed keeps pushing Rocky for a rematch. Creed is upset by the result of there first fight and believes that Rocky was just lucky so he desperately want the rematch to prove his point.
Rocky begins to consider the idea but Adrian manages to stop him and soon has to return to working in the local pet shop part time to help with there finances. This really upsets Rocky, as he believes he should be the provider of the family finances and he goes to see Mickey about training him to fight Creed again. Mickey refuses to train Rocky due to his problems with his sight and believes Rocky will not survive another fight with Creed. The pressure Creed is applying for a rematch and the insults he keeps making soon makes Rocky change his mind and agree to the fight.
Adrian is furious and will not speak to Rocky but Mickey decides Creed has gone too far and agrees to train Rocky for the rematch. Sadly, Rocky's training is not going well as he cannot put his heart into it because Adrian does not support him and whilst training one day Paulie comes rushing in to get him. Adrian has collapsed whilst in work and has been rushed to hospital, she gives birth to a baby boy but Rocky will not see the child, as he believes they should see the baby together for the first time. This is not possible though as Adrian has slipped into a comma.
The fight approaches and Rocky refuses to leave Adrian's bedside even to train. He is in no shape to fight Creed and will not go ahead with the fight whilst Adrian is still so ill. Mickey stays at the hospital with Rocky and the fight looms ever closer. Will Rocky fight Creed, will he be trained enough if he does and will Adrian survive, you will have to watch to find out.

He has shown us that there is more to him than just another actor between his brilliant performances, excellent writing capabilities and now brilliant film directing. He has made this film under his direction and given us a very interesting and enjoyable film to watch with good effects for its age.
His acting in the film as he once again steps into the role of Rocky Balboa is brilliant again. He really does make this character come to life and you find yourself totally gripped with his performance. He had managed to give his character a very emotional side in this film and really does give an emotionally charged performance at times. Talia Shire is also given a chance to build a higher profile for her character in this film and gives a very convincing performance to entertain us. It is nice to see that they have given her the chance to give more emotion to her character and she does this fantastically.
Burt Young is finally given the chance in this film to show that Paulie can have an emotional side too and the way he portrays his character in his own unique way is very entertaining. Yet again, we have the pleasure of an unmistakable and outstanding performance from Burgess Meredith. He shows that Mickey has an emotional and caring side and really gives his character an unmistakable personality that you cannot help but watch and be entertained by.
Carl Weathers is given a chance to allow a serious side to be brought forward for Apollo Creed and his portrayal of this role is once again very entertaining. Let us not forget that he has a trainer Duke who stars in all for Rocky films and it is great to see that each film his character is given more of a role. He once again gives a very highly charged and entertaining performance.
It was nice to see that a film sequel can be just as good as the first film and this is most definitely the case with Rocky II. The way they have managed to continue the story without allowing it to become boring and pointless. I am myself a self-confessed Sylvester Stallone fan, but is that any wonder when he writes, directs and performs in such a brilliant manner. Another great Rocky film, which I happily give 9.8/10
