I'm a bee with a deadly sting. You get a hit and your mind goes ping, your heart will pump and your blood will sing!
Well that wee chorus alone tells you what the Rocky Horror Picture Show will do to you. If watching this DVD doesn't encourage you to get yourself dressed up, and head on out to the theatre to dance and sing the night away, then there's seriously something wrong with you!
I've seen the show three times and the film dozens, and still can't stop watching it over and over again, and listening to my copy of the soundtrack (which includes the Norwegian version of some of the songs - true genius in Norwegian!) RIght that's enough of telling you why you should get this.... let's tell those who don't know already what it's about!
We start off at a wedding, of Ralph Hapschatt (Jeremy Newson) to Betty Monroe (Hilary Labow), which is attended by Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet
Weiss (Oscar winner Susan Sarandon) - also in the background are Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien) and Magenta (Patricia Quinn), we'll learn more about them as the story goes along. Anyways, Brad is taken by the whole festivities and proposes to Janet on the spot. But before they can get married they decide to pay a visit to Dr Everett Scott (Jonathan Adams), at whose Science Exam Brad had first given Janet "the eye, and then panicked".
This is going to be "a strange journey", as after coming to a dead end in the road, they try to reverse back down it, and burst a tire. Sadly the spare in the boot is "badly in need of air", so they head out into the rain to try and get help at a castle that they passed "a few miles back", little did they know what they would find there. On arrival, they are met by Riff Raff, Frank N Furter's (Tim Curry) faithful servant, and his sister Magenta who welcome them into the castle, and start the party (so to speak), with a fine rendition of the famous "Time Warp", which is joined in by a group of Transylvanians (including star of a 90s game show - a bit like Blind Date, that I seem to be the only person who remembers it... can't find any proof of its existence anywhere - can anyone remember it? - Christopher Biggins)
After the dancing, the all fall down, and Brad and Janet turn round to get their first glimpse at Frank N Furter, who introduces himself as a "transvestite from transsexual Transylvania" and invites them up to "the lab, to see what's on the slab" where they get to meet his creation Rocky Horror (Peter Hinwood). At this point I'll miss out a good bit of the film to leave something to your imaginations!
**************************** All that's left now is to tell you how well acted this film is, and we get possibly the greatest musical of all time, despite the cast being relatively unknown for their singing abilities! Only Eddie (MeatLoaf) and Columbia (Little Nell) being well enough known singers to bring an air of respectability to the musical cast.
We have some of the best songs from any musical including Hot Pattotie, the Time Warp, Dammit Janet!, the Sword of Damocles and my personal favourite Wild and Untamed Thing (could you guess that from my title?) ***************************
Running Time - about an hour and a half Rating - in the UK it's a 15 ****************************
Cast Tim Curry (It, The Wild Thornberries, Congo) Richard O'Brien (Crystal Maze) Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) Barry Bostwick (Spin City) Patricia Quinn (not done much else, but was in the sequel "Shock Treatment") the late Jonathan Adams (Star Cops) Peter Hinwood (not famous, Rocky was his only decent role)
and Meat Loaf and Little Nell, both famous enough in their own rights without sharing the crap films they have both been in! The director was Jim Sharman, who hasn't really done much else, except the sequel. A brilliant start to his career, just a shame he didn't go on to make many more films!
****************************** Price (well I doubt you can get this anywhere anymore in the Vanilla version, but the recent editions are all just as good!)
Here is the price guide for the available DVD CD-Wow - Rocky Horror Picture Show, The [special Edition] - £15.75 Amazon - The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Single Disc Edition [1975] - £7.99 Play.com - The Rocky Horror Picture Show (2 Discs) - £7.99 hmv.co.uk - You can get the simple DVD with nothing but the film - good enough - for £2.99!

Found the show I remembered, but it didn't have Biggins in it... at least it did exist and I'm not completely mad!
