This cult movie is a sexy rock 'n' roll romp with more than a hint of old B movie horror films.

Brad and Janet, 2 young, ordinary, healthy kids, get engaged after a friend's wedding and decide to drive out to tell their former science tutor, who introduced them. If only they had rung him up to tell him, their lives would have been very different! The car breaks down during a thunderstorm and the couple decide to go to a nearby castle to see if the owner has a telephone they might use. Once in the castle they meet Riff Raff the butler, his sister Magenta, a tap-dancing "groupie" named Columbia, the owner himself, Frank N Furter, a sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania, his "creation", a blonde muscleman named Rocky, a delivery boy named Eddie and bizarrely their ex-science tutor. Just when Brad and Janet think things couldn't get any weirder....they do, and with plenty of great songs to boot.

Castwise we have Tim Curry (Annie, Muppet Treasure Island, Hunt For Red October, voice of a billion cartoon characters such as King Chicken in Duckman, the dad in the Wild Thornberrys etc), Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise, Witches of Eastwick, Lorenzo's Oil), Barry Bostwick (the mayor in Spin City), Meatloaf, yes Meatloaf and Richard O'Brien (Crystal Maze).

This is one film that people seem to think they wouldn't like, until the opening number over the credits leads them to watch a little more. From then on in, they get into it and by the end, most of them want to see it again and again and again!

The special features with this disc are pretty good, including a surprise one that isn't listed but I can show you the way ;-)

Audio commentary by Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn (Richard being the creator of the original stage show and movie, as well as playing Riff Raff, and Pat being the lips at the beginning but with Richard's voice and playing Magenta) - I believe the way they recorded this was by plying them both with copious amounts of alcohol and letting them ramble away over the whole film. Some interesting bits of information along the way but very hard to watch the movie while listening to them.

The Theatrical Experience - sub-standard (imho) audience reactions and some performance by one of the many "blocking" casts i.e. people who create a cast at a particular theatre that shows Rocky and act out what is happening on stage, generally with improvisation.

Participation prompter - you may have heard that people going to see Rocky at the theatre squirt water pistols, throw rice etc and this prompter tells you when to do these things. Probably not something you'd want to do in your own lounge lol.

Now for the secret.... on the main menu, instead of scrolling down the options, press the "left" arrow on your handset to move away from the list. You will now find a black set of lips has appeared. Click on this and you will get an idea of how the film was originally going to look, until it was discovered it would take too much money to film part in black and white and part in colour. I can thoroughly recommend watching the film this way as the black and white beginning makes it look like a proper old horror film. In fact, a lot of the sets and locations for the early parts of the film were deliberately created for the film to be shot in black and white rather than colour so it doesn't look like a watered down, greying version of the full colour film.

Are you now prepared to take that...Step to the right, but it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insaaaaaaane, let's do the Timewarp again!

I saw this for the first time a couple of nights ago. It's totally bizarre but I found it amusing.
