Rocky I is the tale of an amateur boxer living in Philadelphia at the time the movie was written in 1976. The main character Rocky is played by Sylvestone in what was his first major movie part that set his career off to be a very successful life. Rocky is not a film about sports but about hope and having the will to carry on against all the odds- a million to one shot. We meet the slugger from Philly in an u nderground style fight, which is put on for gambling purposes. The opening scene shows the grit and determination of the character. The fighter gets lucky later in the film after the world champion who is fighting in Philadelphia chooses to fight the Itallion Stallion as a novely because his ranked opponent has been injured. Apollo Creed never forsees the threat Rocky Balboa imposes, which makes Rock even more desperate to become a somebody and prove himself. Running alongside the grooling training and match preparations is the love story between Rocky and his best friend's sister Adrian, which makes this a film suitable for the whole family. Without spoiling the ending I promise this film is a great viewing that touches the audience with an overwhelming message of hope, self- determination and resilliance to all. A must see film.
