ROCKETSHIP X-M ================
A real find this film, ok it's grossly inaccurate when it comes right down to the factual science but it is still a superb film.
The story is basically about the crew of rocketship X-M and there adventures. They set out to land on the moon and set up an untouchable space base. However they miscalculate and end up on Mars instead. Now that's a bit absurd but let's go with it for now. The crew consists of four men and one woman: The Ship designer, Dr. Exum, Navigator, Lloyd Bridges, Engineer Major William Corrigan, A beautiful chemist, Dr. Lisa Van Horn And a (get ready to die) extra.
On Mars they find remains of a Martian city and surprise, surprise they looked human in form. It is determined that they destroyed themselves using Atomics. They discover a few other Martian goodies and not so goodie, they end up having to make life and death decision and if they get it wrong humanity could be at risk,
The special effects look a little dated but the scenery is quite wonderful to see. The plot hurtles along at an impressive pace and is thoroughly enjoyable. The film itself is a very good watch and I would heartily recommend it.
A manned spaceship veers off course and lands on Mars. The surviving crew discover a world destroyed by an atomic holocaust.

DVD Description
Lloyd Bridges stars as spaceship pilot Colonel Graham in this 1950 sci-fi film about a group of four astronauts (three men, one woman) whose trip to the moon is ruined when a solar wind blows them off course, forcing them to land on Mars. There, they find a primitive society of beings that bear a striking resemblance to humans. One of the better sci-fi films to come out of the 1950s, ROCKETSHIP X-M is a serious thriller that boasts excellent black and white photography (the Mars scenes have an eerie red tint), fine acting, and mixes an intriguing plot and sophisticated science with some rather bizarre fifties naivete, making for a thoroughly entertaining trip into space.
