When I seen this box set on offer, looking at me from a shop window (not mentioning any names) I just had to go in and buy them. I have always been a fan of the Robocop films, the first 2 anyway and the thought of passing up on this offer was just too good to miss. All 3 films in an attractive foldout presentation box, with the added bonus of special features and a Directors Cut of the first film, WooHoo I hear you shout… I'll give a brief synopsis of each film just so you know what I'm rambling on about and remind those of you who can't quite remember in what film things happen.
Disk 1: Robocop With the death of Officer Murphy (Peter Weller) OCP (Omni Consumer Products) who fund the Police force use his dead body to make the ultimate Police Cop. With enhanced strength, bullet proof armour and zero tolerance for anyone breaking the law, he has criminal's running in fear. That is until he starts to remember who he really is, or was, and set's out on his own vendetta against the crime-lord who killed him. With very bloody violence this film is not for those who are looking for a light action film. The disk comes with some great extras like the option to view the Directors cut. This gives you extended scenes where the violence was thought to be too much. This includes the Murphy "Death" scene, the ED-209 malfunction scene, and the shootout finale. Other extras on the disk are: New documentary: Flesh and steel, the making of Robocop Featurette: Shooting Robocop Featurette: Making Robocop Deleted scenes including directors cut footage with live stage direction Trailers TV Commercial Photo Gallery Storyboard comparison (commentary by Phil Tippett) Commentary with director Paul Verhoeven
Disk 2: Robocop 2 This time around a drug has taken it's hold on Detroit's population with 1 man at the head of it's distribution. Robocop on his mission to rid the city of this drug lord put's him in hospital where he becomes the next candidate brain for OCP's new Robocop 2 model. Will Robocop be phased out by this more heavily armed cyborg. This is a good second film, which was directed by Irvin Kirschner. Peter Weller once again dons the Robot suit to become Robocop. No special extras are provided for this disk which is a shame as this is a pretty good film, not as good as the first but still a good film. With just the standard language options and a trailer, not much to shout about here.
Disk 3: Robocop 3 With the deadline for the Delta City construction nearing, a special police force has been hired to move the people of Detroit out of the city in time for the construction to begin. With Robocop framed for his partners murder, can he save the people from the terrorising special police unit, before their homes are destroyed. This is a pretty weak story and with the added misfortune of not having Peter Weller reprising his role as Robocop this is not the best film in the box. This disk also has no real added extras.
Well that's your 3 disks work of robotic crime fighting. Although disks 2 and 3 have disappointing extras, the packed disk 1 makes up for it I feel with just the directors edition of the film. The featurettes and behind the scenes extras are just great to watch. It's just a shame that the storyline for Robocop 3 could not be better.
Advantages: 2 great movies, good action, quite funny in parts Disadvantages: poor third movie, quite expensive
ROBOCOP TRILOGY DVD
-------------------
Back in the late 1980's we finally saw a change in the way robot movies were made.
Up until this time Robots were mostly just men dressed in silver painted cardboard boxes, and they were nearly always the enemies.
Well that was about to change with Paul Verhoeven's vision of near future Detroit
These films were a dream for toy manufacturers everywhere, as soon as you'd seen Robocop or ED-209, you knew ... ...some nice detailed pictures of Robocop and ED-209 pasted all over it.
Each movie comes on its own dvd, although only the first one offers any decent extra's.
--ROBOCOP 1--
Peter Weller plays Alex Murphy, a street cop, that has been relocated to the old Detroit area.
This area is soon to be demolished and replaced by some nice shiny new buildings, the problem is that the area has become infested with crime.
Most of the crime in the area is caused ...

DVD Description
This collection features ROBOCOP and its two sequels. In Paul Verhoeven's original urban sci-fi Western, Peter Weller stars as Murphy, a good Detroit cop who literally gets shot to pieces while on duty and winds up reborn as a crime-fighting machine--RoboCop. His former partner (Nancy Allen) tries to help RoboCop remember his human past, but his circuitry blocks whatever dim memories remain. Luckily, a chance encounter with one of his killers wakes up the human essence in RoboCop, causing him to rebel against his programming and commence on a one-cyborg mission of vengeance that leads all the way to the top of OCP, the omnipresent corporation that created him. ROBOCOP 2 is an even darker, more violent sequel to the first film. This time around, in addition to the corporate goons who are busy exploiting the blighted city of Detroit, RoboCop (Weller) must battle a psychotic drug lord who has been transformed into a second robot enforcer. Finally, in ROBOCOP 3, the heroic cyborg (this time played by Robert John Burke) joins an underground guerrilla army of homeless people united against OCP.
