I always find myself comparing this film with the Terminator series and when you compare the two you always think of the Robocop films as being the Vauxhall Astra of the sci fi action adventure films while Terminator was the Mercedes.
Set in a future American city of Detroit where big business rather than the government actually run the economy law enforcement comes under the control of Omni Corporation and as crime is spirraling out of control with the daily killing of an under paid police force who are demoralised they come up with the idea of a robotic offcer. The first creation sponsored by Dick Jones is a spectacular failure so an alternative plan is hatched which requires the body of a barely alive police officer who is then turned into Robocop a fully robotic metal officer whose gun is hidden in his right leg.
The poor officer who ends up being transformed into robocop is one Alex Murphy played by Peter Weller who falls pray to an evil crime boos called Clarence Boddicker whose ruthless gang have a hidden agenda behind their activites.

Quality of acting is not a big thing for this movie, it rests solely on the high level of violence and action scenes which mostly consist of Robocop going about shooting lots of bad guys using his superior fire power and the fact that bullets just bounce off him.
I have to confess to a sneaking enjoyment of this film, the dialogue might be on the low brow side and the plot rather extreme but it is enjoyable escapism where you can appreciate the comic book style of the film making. Not a patch on the Terminator films but enjoyable none the less.
