girl's room informs us that he's now become a children's toy. The image is right on the money; despite following up two of the most violent, hilarious sci-fi/action films ever made,Robocop 3is strictly for the kiddies. It's not just that the gore has been toned down considerably to make for a PG-13 rating; also excised is the straight-faced portrait of a world run by corporate fascism. When evil corporation OCP, and its even more evil Japanese parent company, plan to raze a Detroit neighbourhood to put up the shining new Delta City, the residents (including the aforementioned adolescent, who conveniently happens to be a computer expert) gang up to fight back, just like the angry neighbours inDeath Wish V. Robocop (played this time out by Robert John Burke, Peter Weller having wisely passed) could be a hindrance to the companies' plans, so a ninja android is sent in to deal with him. Even all this could have been enjoyable, in a campy sort of way, but nothing pays off as either comedy or action--tellingly, the two big showdowns with the ninja start exhilaratingly (Robocop's clunky movements hilariously counterpoised by the android's acrobatic leaps), only to end just when they're getting good. Director Fred Dekker has some nice stylistic touches scattered about, but not nearly enough to save the film. One high note, though: the animated "Johnny Rehab" spot may be the funniest ad in the whole series. --Bruce Reid, Amazon.com

This film has put the franchise downhill. Despite there being no Peter Weller or Paul Verhoeven, the film has a lack of violence in an attempt to gain a new, younger audience. The original (and far superior, see review) movie was infmaous for its graphic violence and dipiction of a realistic future. The second one surpported this but wasn't as succesful. This film has the futuristic concept (as this doesn't affect the certificate) but had none of the blood and violence that you would've expected from RoboCop.
The action was there and is entertaining to watch, but this movie turned into a more audince friendly movie and the violence isn't fully appreciated.
Performances from the cast are not bad, Robert John Burke had to fill in the shoes of Peter Weller who did it so well in the last two films. Burke however, wasn't particulary spectacular in his performance. The surporting cast (appart from Nancy Allen who makes a third appearence as Louis) all look like they were dragged away from a national talent contest. Rip Torn is the new head of OCP and does have the look of an executive chairman, but I would have personally cast someone different.
The story (see above) has been engineered to make us the audience have more sympathy for characters that we don't know alot about. Ideed, this film is a far more pussier version than the other two prequels.
You'll watch this the once just to say that you've watched it and probably won't ever again.
The whole ninja android thing ammused my brother (as he's a kung fu fanatic) but to me, I thought it was quite laughable. The ninja was merely a more athletic version of the Terminator but played by an aisian.
If you really do want to watch this then buy the trilogy. If you watch it in chronelogical order you'll realise that the franchise has more or less plumetted off a cliff when the first film ends. Its not the worst sequel i've seen (cough- "Speed 2" - cough) butn it certainly ain't "T2". Although with no original star or director, what do you expect?
...some more money. In steps Robocop to help, and it all ends happily ever after. Thats it. That is the plot, our friendly law enforcement guy turns squatter basically and fights for the common man against the law...dumb. Of course, realising that the plot sucked, our team of morons who wrote this trash decided that robocop should also have some extra features. He has a rocket pack which allows him to fly and a hand which can be removed and replaced ... ...Paul Verhoeven's original Robocop was a smart, tongue-in-cheek action movie with some great action scenes and it developed a ood following because of this. The second movie pretty much stank, but it was at least watchable, and did have some good parts. Robocop 3...is surely meant for kids and surely is one huge attempt to milk the licence for all it is worth. The TV series spinoff was like this movie, perhaps then it is a feature length version of ...

Advantages: It'll pass two hours Disadvantages: It'll be two hours not spent doing something more worthwhile
The original Robocop was a gritty satire. The third Robocop has none of the character of the first film. The plot (OCP ruthlesly tries to evict people so they can turn Detroit into a gleaming example of a coporate city) is trite. Instead of the beaten and weathered look of Robocop in the first film, he's now got the shiny and buffed-up chrome look. The action tends to be of the cartoon kind ("is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's a flying Robocop!!"). ...

Advantages: Ther is Robocop in it. Disadvantages: Low budget, bad script, mediocre supporting cast.
ROBOCOP 3 is not a tough movie to review. You can take the easy way out and just say, "It sucked," or in hubcap boy's case, "It's gay.". The original had heart, the sequel was made for kids, but still, it was violent.. This one? Oh man. Robert John Burke is likable and fun to cheer for as Murphy, but the absence of Peter Weller is evident. Frank Miller's script is much more focused than the original -- there's a good guy and a bad guy. But then again, ... ...to come to Murphy's aid). RoboCop is no less likable, but in this film, he's just a wisecracking action hero, and not the tragic figure of the first movie. Nancy Allen does not fare well in this movie. Her character is used as a tool for motivation; making Murphy want revenge for her death, and that seems shallow. She barely does anything in the film before she expires, surprisingly early on. The film seems rather clear cut and squeaky clean, probably ...

After enjoying the first two installments (underage, oops!), I was really looking forward to this one. But, by the time it was released, I already knew the plot from the computer game and wasn't very impressed. I've since seen it once more on TV (I must have been desperate!), ... ...acting is nothing special, the effects are average for today and all of the submersive, dark and satirical elements introduced by Mr. Showgirls (Paul Verhoeven) in his classic dystopian vision have been discarded onto the scrap pile and replaced something that fails on all levels. They should have left it at two, and concentrated on the TV series (which was aimed at a different audience).

ROBOCOP TRILOGY DVD
-------------------
Back in the late 1980's we finally saw a change in the way robot movies were made.
Up until this time Robots were mostly just men dressed in silver painted cardboard boxes, and they were nearly always the enemies.
Well that was about to change with Paul Verhoeven's vision of near future Detroit
These films were a dream for toy manufacturers everywhere, as soon as you'd seen Robocop or ED-209, you knew that a toy was already in the pipeline, although the children that would play with these wouldn't be old enough to see the movie that they were based on!
This box set was released in 2002, and contains 3 dvds, all nicely placed in a smart looking metallic blue folding package, with some nice detailed pictures of Robocop and ED-209 pasted all over it.
Each movie comes on its own dvd ...
Advantages: Violent, a believable future Disadvantages: Too violent for some to stomach
truely unique and special, recreating bird like movement's when RoboCop to give that feeling that he realy is a cyborg. The man also had a lot of patience as it took him four hours to get into the suit first time plus additional makeup.
The other cast members all provide good performances as well but it is Weller who wins first prize as the portrayl of a cyborg with human knowledge and feelings.
RoboCop is truely a classic and far outdos its two sequels (RoboCop 2 recreates the violence successfully but lacks the style of Verhoeven and RoboCop3 just shouldn't of been made)
I applore anyone who doesn't mind scenes of graphic violence to catch this (prefrebley on DVD) as this (in Verhoeven's words) is a film about the cruxifiction and the ressurection of someone trying to do good in a word of capitalist corruption and violence.

of Detroit. Robocop actually looks good, as in the robot suit they got for Robocop. Its like a silver exoskeleton and seems convincing enough for us to believe it would work, it lets Robocop move basically and not all too fast, but then with his advanced armour he doesnt need to move that fast, he can still take out the bad guys easily with his advanced targeting system. Robocop was written by Michael Miner and Edward Neumeier, Miner went on to such heights as to write the script for Lawnmower Man 2 while Neumeier equaled these soaring heights with scripts for Robocop 2 and 3.
Criterion are known for their extra features on DVD and this one is just an identical port of their laserdisc edition. We get a commentary track from director Paul Verhoeven, co-writer Edward Neumeier, executive producer Jon Davidson and Robocop expert Paul Sammon ...
