Fans and stars alike share their view on the Robbie phenomenon while the man himself announces, in no uncertain terms, his intention to tear the roof off the Royal Albert Hall.Well Swung:In addition to this perfectly proportioned package, there is also a documentary on the making of Swing When You're Winning, filmed in Los Angeles in the Summer of 2001, plus many more intimate, unmissable moments with Britain's' very own King of Swing.Gallery:Cool, slick photos from the album sleeve shoot at Capital Studios, taken by Hamish Brown, reportage photography by Chapman Baehler, and additional Swing photography by Chapman Baehler and Scarlet Page. Extras include the seductive video of Robbie's Number 1 single Something' Stupid, featuring the gorgeous Nicole Kidman.

to what was a very special evening. The concert offered tracks from his Rat Pack covers albumSwing When You're Winningan album that finally gave him across the board appeal from nostalgic Grannies to hormonally imbalanced teenagers. With the average ticket price well into three figures and the likes of Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, Bob Geldof and Nicole Kidman in the stalls, this was no ordinary Robbie concert. Backed by a full swing band, accompanied by a slew of glamorous dancers, compered by Rupert Everett and featuring duets with John Lovitz, Jane Horrocks, the scene-stealing Jonathan Wilkes and even Old Blue Eyes himself Frank Sinatra (albeit in video form), Robbie takes centre stage and performs like never before. Classic track follows classic track--from "The Lady is a Tramp" (which Robbie dedicates to his last three girlfriends), to "Mr Bojangles" to "My Way", each and every one of them is instantly recognisable, even to most of the younger members of the audience. Directed by Hamish Hamilton (the man behind the spectacular U2 Elevation DVD) this is a great up close and personal view of an intimate gig.On the DVD:The disc is lovingly put together in glorious 5.1 surround sound. The DVD also features the documentary "Well Swung" which follows Robbie all the way to Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, where he recorded some of the tracks for the album with members of Frank's original band. There is also a gallery of luscious shots of Robbie on location and at the Capitol Studios. At times it does tend towards the schmaltzy, with Robbie fighting back the tears when the video footage of Frank singing booms out across the Albert Hall, but this is scant criticism. All in all this is a fantastic performance from a legend in the making. --Helen Marquis

I bought this DVD as soon as it first came out on the shelves in 2001 and paid full price for it (about £14.99). It was a present for my husband's birthday as he loves to listen to Robbie and enjoys this type of music. It is widely available on-line for as little as about £5 on Ebay so it is worth shopping around to see what offers are available.
The DVD is Region 2 and is compatible to be played in multi-region players or those that only play DVDs from Europe. We have a multi-region player that does everything bar make a cup of tea so no problems there!
The DVD is in a booklet style cover which does in fact have a short booklet within, giving details of the concert and a couple of good quotes from Robbie himself. My favourite one (showing Robbie's unique sense of humour) has to be:
"There may be trouble ahead but while there's moonlight and music and love and romance .... let's all get butt-naked and f***ed up on drugs!"
(This quote in no way advocates the taking of drugs - it is just a quote from the DVD!)
On reading the booklet, it gives a little insight into how the concert came about, how quickly the tickets sold, and who was involved. I found it quite interesting reading. There are also a few still photos of the actual concert and these are stills from the actual DVD so whets the appetite to watch the DVD itself.
And on to the concert itself ....
At the start of the DVD is a short warning that there is strong language within the DVD that may cause offense and that parental guidance is recommended.
Introduced by the divine Rupert Everett (oh how I love his voice - it is so sexy), we see Robbie himself walking the corridors of the Albert Hall, before sliding down a pole down onto the stage, to tumultuous applause from the audience (who must have paid an arm and a leg to go to this concert).
The songs performed on this are:
1 Have You Met Miss Jones? 2 Mack The Knife 3 Straighten Up And Fly Right 4 Let's Face The Music And Dance 5 Well, Did You Evah? (with John Lovett) 6 The Lady Is A Tramp 7 Things (with Jane Horrocks) 8 One For My Baby 9 Mr Bojangles 10 I Will Talk And Hollywood Will Listen 11 Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me 12 Beyond The Sea 13 Me And My Shadow (with Johnathan Wilkes) 14 Ain't That A Kick In The Head 15 It Was A Very Good Year (with Frank Sinatra) 16 My Way
I'm not going to go into each song as that would take up too much space and would make for a really boring review as I thought they were all good. Each song is performed with Robbie's enthusiasm and lust for life, which makes for an enjoyable performance. And also makes for very enjoyable watching, whether you are a fan of Robbie or not. In between the songs, Robbie talks to the audience and plugs his "forthcoming album" Swing When You Are Winning. Shows how old this DVD is - considering this is now known as one of his earlier albums!
Personally, before watching this DVD I will admit to being a Robbie fan, but not a fan of swing music. But this DVD has converted me to a fan of the style of music known as swing. I have been known to put this DVD on during the day and do my housework to the dulcet tones of Mr Williams, and sing along as well.
Considering how many songs are on this DVD and the fact that you get to see a Robbie concert and backstage as well, I feel that this is really good value for money, even at full price. There are even a couple of songs performed here that are not on the album, so you get a little more for your money.
DVD Extras ~~~~~~~~~
* Track Selection = a bit like scene selection on movies but this time you can pick one of the songs to listen to
* Well Swung = behind the scenes in america where Robbie recorded Swing When You're Winning. Really interesting and quite emotive in parts, like the parts where Robbie actually sang with Sinatra's pianist and bass player (on separate ocassions)
* Gallery = a gallery of still pictures from the DVD and extras.
* Audio selection = choose between the audio options for an optimum listening experience.
I can heartily recommend this DVD to anyone who likes good music where you can hear the words that are being sung, instead of just hearing a beat from a drumkit. There are also some rather funny parts but I will not divulge these as that would be spoiling your viewing fun!
Advantages: 100 Minutes of pure entertainment. Disadvantages: Erm! Let Me Think!!! Nope, there are none.
...in the opening scenes of Robbie Williams - Live At The Albert.
I watched this when it was originally aired on TV back in mid/late 2001. What a show? And the uncut DVD is even better.
As I'm a total Robbie Freak!! I ran straight out in December 2001 and bought this so it cost me £11.99, However I dare bet you could pick it up for a couple of quid from the Internet now. The packaging is a very elegant looking card case with a little booklet fixed ... ...on the front cover.
Robbie, who's accompanied by a 58 piece orchestra and some cameo appearances from, Guy Chambers, John Lovitz, Jane Horrocks, Johnathon Wilkes and Frank Sinatra, perform the following songs with the passion and enthusiasm they deserve.

1 Have You Met Miss Jones?
2 Mack The Knife
3 Straighten Up And Fly Right
4 Let's Face The Music And Dance
5 Well, Did You Evah?

...tons of style and that Robbie cheek. He's a born show man and entertainer. Even those who are precious about these classic songs have been impressed by this performance. Cameo appreances from Jane Horrocks and Jonathan Wilkes add touches of humour and when Robbie sings "My Way" with tears in his eyes, you do want to stand up and applaud along with the audience. The extras are good but there's not enough of them. Its fascinating watching how they ...
