I think the past few years of cinema will be defined as being the moment when teen flicks came into fashion again. It's also been a time when you couldn't see a comedy unless it sexual or gross humour. Road Trip is a film in the vein of American Pie, it even has one of the stars of that film as one of the stars in this one.

This is how the story goes very plain and simple. It's college and one guy has a long distance relationship with his childhood sweetheart. But one night he can't escape the allure of another female student and ends up in bed with her and the act is caught on videotape. But somehow the tape finds itself in the mail and on the way to his girlfriend. So that's a cue for a road trip across the USA to get back the tape before it's too late. Naturally along the way we have tricks on the blind, exploding cars, old men on pot and many other jolly japes.

Road Trip isn't a bad film, it has some good jokes that are great the first time you watch them but after a few times they grow stale which means this isn't a dvd for everyone’s collection. The only consistently funny moments employ Tom Green who thanks to his madness and sheer outrageous nature makes them funny. But if you don't like Tom Green then there's another reason to leave it.

The dvd itself is a very average affair to be quite honest. The film is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. The transfer is quite good and what you'd expect for a recent film. The colours are strong and there are only a few speckles of dirt throughout the entire thing.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix suffers the same fate as most comedy film mixes. Don't expect much going on in the rears and it's all located at the front. But it's mixed well with a god use of music. The region 1 version also has a DTS version but there isn't a great deal to gain.

The extras are where things get disappointing with not a great deal to sink your teeth into.

There is a 'making of' that run for about 5 minutes and is hosted by Tom Green, it's very sketchy, has a few funny moments but is generally a promotional piece and very lazy.

The deleted scenes vary in quality. Obviously there is a reason that these were cut and most of it is Tom Green stuff so thank god it's pretty funny as he rambles on doing his insane brand of humour.

Also included is the music video for The Eels 'Beautiful Day'. This video features the band and cast on a road trip. It's a great song but strangely this is the edited version where some words are censored. Considering this is labelled 'unseen & explicit' makes it stranger.

Now for the reason why this dvd is labelled "unseen and explicit!” This is an extended version of the film that wasn't shown in the theatres. Now most extended versions of films don't really feature much at all and this is no different. But what you get remains in the spirit of the sexual content of the film. One scene is set in a girl’s shower room and features gratuitous nudity. Well the extended version increases the nudity factor and even goes as far as having girls rubbing each other down.

I suppose if that's your sort of thing then I've pretty much sold the disc to you!

The only reason I'd buy the DVD is for the Tom Green stuff, although I did like the film! Thanks! Anna
