Hollywood is sadistic!
Review of Arlington Road DVD by sasr007

Advantages: Shock ending
Disadvantages: None

...Films should end happily. You know, good guy kills bad guy and gets girl. Arlington Road is a hollywood freak - the bad-guy wins and KILLS the beautiful girl! When I watched it, I was absolutely blown away...I know some people have given this film indifferent reviews, probably because the film is so original, and doesn't seem to follow the expected route. The ending of this film is so controvertial and shocking that I was blown away, and have since bought this DVD and watched it again. If you are looking for a highly original film, then I could not reccomend this enough, but be prepared for one hell of an ending!... Read review

The best one
Review of Mad Max DVD by johnt

Advantages: great acting and casting
Disadvantages: none

...The was the first in the Mad Max trilogy of films. It was the one to launch Mel Gibson's career. He played the maverick road cop who did battle with the marauding biker gangs. The movie was low budget but an excellant plot and superb casting brought this movie to life. The characters and action sequences far weighed the sequel and the dire Hollywood "Beyond The Thunderdome" with Tina Turner was dreadful. The original and the best of the three. I've seen it 14 times now but never still enjoy watching it.... Read review

Not your average road movie.
Review of Duel DVD by Frostbite

Advantages: Gave the world Steven Spielberg
Disadvantages: Gave the world Steven Spielberg

...Duel is a film for anyone one who feels a need to see 'modern classic' movies. Best know for Hollywood blockbusters and lavish plots this directorial debut brought us a glimpse of the power and insight of Steven Spielberg albeit in a non stop truck-tries-to-smash-car movie. Never quite fitting comfortably into any particular genre this part action part thriller part public service announcement against road rage is a pleasure to watch if at times a little slow. Of the handful of characters who come and go throughout the film none have much in the way of screen presence least of all the hapless hero/victim of the piece. If i'm being honest, without the prior knowledge of this being Speilberg 1st the film would lack appeal although like many 'modern classics' there is a strange sense of acheivement as you rewind the tape or eject the DVD...
