* BRIEF PLOT…
When the mysterious James Dalton, (played by Patrick Swayze), a top rated 'bouncer', leaves New York to start a new life in Jasper, a small town in Missouri, working as a 'bouncer' at a sleazy club called the Double Deuce, he believes his 'calm' way of looking at life will help him in his new job. Dalton is soon getting down to his job, clearing the club of trouble makers… and some rather dodgy employees as well, including the nephew of local big shot Brad Wesley, (played by Ben Gazzara), who takes offence at the new boys behaviour, leading to some scrapes with Wesley 'heavies'. Things get even more fiery in the small town when Dalton makes friends with Elizabeth Clay, (played by Kelly Lynch), the local Doctor, who happens to be the ex-lover of Wesley…
Then, with the arrival of Wade Garrett, (played by Sam Elliot), an old friend of Daltons and another 'bouncer' the pair dig in their heals to clean up the club and battle against Wesley and his corrupt ways… only things don't quite go to plan, much to Garretts misfortune and Daltons anger…
** IN CONCLUSION…
I remember watching this when it first came out and I remember thinking it was quite a good movie for it's time… although I was going through a stage of enjoying watching 'fight' action movies…(kick boxer, lethal weapon 2, Karate kid part 3 and the like)… I particularly remembered a certain part in the movie where Swayze rips out the throat of his attacker in a move that has never been repeated… playing it in slow motion to try and figure out how he did it with such perfection, (long finger nails are needed I suppose).
Anyway….back to the movie and back to the present day…..
I happened upon a copy of it the other day and thought I'd reminisce a little by watching it…. But truthfully I wish I hadn't… it seemed to spoil what I remembered watching nearly 20 years ago. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good movie and I enjoyed watching it, (sort of). It keeps up a good pace throughout, with some good fights and a rather well written story… although, compared to many newly released movies it lacks that certain something… It is your standard format…'stranger comes to town and is soon looked on as the new saviour'… nothing more, nothing less, and as there are a lot of this type on the market it is always going to be either a Swayze fans choice or an error at Blockbusters as there are some better movies of this type out there…although there are some that are a lot worse… this is somewhere in the middle I suppose.
The all round acting is a little questionable at times, but doesn't really spoil the movie enough to make you reach for the off button… even Mr Patrick Swayze does a good job, with his funny looking face and well choreographed fighting performance. And to add a little of the usual romance into this type of movie they brought in the beautiful Kelly Lynch as the doctor who is soon besotted by the hard man image of the enigmatic man from out of town.
It does have everything that is needed to keep the audience happy and contented, giving out plenty of action, some rather good fight scenes, a good enough and plausible story and that little bit of troubled romance… so the near two hour movie should please most people, if not all.
In all, if you haven't yet seen this then it may be worth a watch, considering you can get it from www.amazon.co.uk for less than a fiver… and for that you get nearly two hours of Swayze in his youth plus Interactive menus, Chapter selection, dubbed languages and the original trailer.
Advantages: Swayze, and great sound track Disadvantages: The Cheesy Dialogue
...spoil the film. To be honest it is not a bad film but I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone purely down to the cheesy dialogue. If you really want a bit of 80's Swayze nostalgia then stick to Dirty Dancing.

It has been a long time since I have seen this film but remember it well.
Patrick Swayze plays Dalton, and he runs a club.
One night someone asks him if he is interested in working for him doing the same job that he is doing now but for a lot more money, Dalton thinks for a moment ... ...flight to his club called the "Double Duche" but he refuses to fly and drives there on his own.
Having been a bouncer at other clubs he no's what he is letting himself in for and get prepared for the worsed by changing her car to a banger and get a supply of tyres, as he is about the sack some of the staff there.
Before he does anything he props himself up at the end of the bar for a while and just watches and does nothing at all but watch. There ...

Advantages: Has everything - violence, love, sex, crime, action, adventure & so much more! Disadvantages: Very violent, lots of blood, murder & batterings - not for the faint of heart!
The first time i saw this film was on TV, and i only caught the tail end of it. Nevertheless, what i saw caught my attention and i really enjoyed it, even though it is quite heavy on violence towards the end, which is normally not my thing. Surprisingly, i also enjoyed the use of martial arts in this film, even though films that have martial arts in them are not my forte. It was some time before i watched the film again, after picking it up on DVD ... ...see the entire film from the get-go and could follow the storyline. It is far from ordinary! This film is unlike any other i have ever seen. Rest assured this is not one of those films where, as you watch it, it reminds you of the plot of another film, as if it were just a remake. The storyline of this film is fairly unique. The cast is also excellent, starring Patrick Swayze (Dalton), Ben Gazzara (Brad Wesley), Kelly Lynch (DOC: Dalton's love interest ...

Advantages: Entertaining, Good Fight Scenes Disadvantages: A Fair quantity of Nudity
...that, then stay away from Road House (or at least record it so you can fast forward the nude and sex scenes).
Fourthly, the story is good although obviously quite basic. The story is very easy to follow, he is brought in to take control and teach the current bouncers and ends up fighting the tyrants to stop them exploiting them. Basic and Simple, but very good.
Not much else to say really about this film, it is easy to follow, has good fight scenes, ...
