Advantages: Brillaint plot, twist, actors Disadvantages: Violent and dark content but this is relevant to the film
...The Shawshank Redemption, based on the Steven King novella, is a film centred around the protagonist, Andy Dufrense (Tim Robbins) but narrated by Red, a man who has been in the prison for many years. Andy is wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover and the film develops into an intense and interesting plot of his time at Shawshank. Although the film contains strong and violent content, this is not to put one off. The actual resolution of the narrative is an amazing flawless scene which depicts the idea of 'hope' and 'redemption' within the film - the tagline is 'fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.'
The 1994 film is set in 40s America, and the use of 40s themes such as the soundtrack and icons such as RitaHayworth are reflected throughout the film.
Although the film may sound dark and depressing...

Advantages: The best film of all time. A masterpiece. Disadvantages: None whatsoever
...This film, in my opinion, is simply the greatest film ever made.
When this film was released at the cinema, it came and went quietly, with not much interest, probably due to the unusual title. But 'The Shawshank Redemption' quietly plied it's trade at the video rental store, building up popularity from word of mouth and personal recommendations rather than any vigorous advertising campaign.
Okay, so lets look at the background. The film is based on the novella 'RitaHayworth and Shawshank Redemption' taken from the book 'Different Seasons' by Stephen King. This book consists of four novella's, which were very productive for Mr King as the film's, 'Stand By Me' and 'Apt Pupil' were also taken from this book. This is the only example in my opinion where the film is actually better than the book.
The story follows, Andy Dufresne Inmate...

Advantages: It's only one of the best films of all time! Disadvantages: In my opinion there are none
...The Shawshank Redemption is a fascinating, gripping movie directed by Frank Darabont based on the novel RitaHayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
It is a film that will appear in most peoples top 10 greatest films of all time, and it's certainly in mine. However when the movie first appeared in 1994 it flopped. It wasn't as big a box office hit as Pulp Fiction or Forest Gump. Only through positive word of mouth and in the later the release of video tapes did the film do its best. It's engaging story and great characters keep people of all ages coming back and back again to live the life of Andy Dufresne. The films been going for more than 10 years now and its not letting slip of its place as one of the greatest movies of all time.
Plot:
The film is about Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins). A simple man who works for a bank. He has not a care...
