Angeles car wash. An ensemble piece which interweaves the lives of employees, customers and passersby. Car Wash stars a gallery of gifted actors, most of whom are relatively unknown to movie goers and spotlights an array of guest stars in vivid cameo roles, including George Carlin, Professor Irwin Corey, The Pointer Sisters and Richard Pryor as Daddy Rich, a flamboyant Reverand who preaches the goodness of the dollar.Stir Crazy:Would-be playwright Skip Donohue (Wilder) and would-be actor Harry Monroe (Pryor) should be on the road to success. But along the way to seeking their fortunes in California, they get stranded in Arizona. Hired to dress as woodpeckers for a bank promotion, Skip and Harry are mistaken for bank robbers and find themselves thrown behind bars. The result is over-the-top comic fun from Pryor and Wilder. Directed by Sidney Poitier and featuring JoBeth Williams, Georg Stanford Brown and Craig T. Nelson in supporting roles, Stir Crazy is inspired lunacy from start to finish.Brewster's Millions:Could you spend $30 million in 30 days and have nothing to show for it? That's exactly what Richard Pryor has to accomplish in this hilarious contemporary version of the classic big money comedy.Montgomery Brewster (Pryor) is a down-and-out baseball player who discovers that he's the only living relative of an eccentric multi-millionaire (Hume Cronyn). Monty stands to inherit ?300 million, but only if he can spend $30 million in a single month without acquiring any assets, if he fails, it's back to zero again.See No Evil, Hear No Evil:Meet Wally and Dave. They're as opposite as two buddies can be. Wally (Richard Pryor) is brash, loud-mouthed and blind.Dave (Gene Wilder) is quiet, mild-mannered and deaf. Both of them are individual disaster zones. But together... they're even worse!

in Peoria, Illinois. Raised in his grandmother's brothel, Pryor left home to serve in the army from 1958 to 1960. During his twenties, he worked in small comedy clubs before being discovered by Johnny Carson in 1966. The following year, he reinvented his mainstream act, adding the profanity and controversial racial themes that would become his signature.Pryor appeared in Las Vegas and in such hit films as The Lady Sings the Blues (1972), Uptown Saturday Night (1974) and Brewster's Millions (1985). With his expressive face, speedy wit and raunchy language, Pryor created a variety of characters on stage and screen, winning an Emmy Award in 1973, and five Grammy Awards in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981, and 1982. The comedian also starred in the short-lived Richard Pryor Show for NBC in 1977, but the network censors were not ready for his act and he was unwilling to alter his content.Pryor was married seven times to five women and has seven children. His ongoing drug addiction eventually derailed his career, and he retired from recording in the late 1980s, though he continued to make films. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1986 and died on December 10, 2005, of a heart attack.

I am one of those, hence the first review of this limited edition DVD, coincidentally the first Pryor DVD I ever bought. Whether its the getting 'whoop-assed' by his mama as a child, or indeed the 'shooting of his wifes car' as well as the benefit boxing bout with Mohammed Ali. The Live In Concert part of the DVD has never been bettered in my opinion. Pryor is a fantastic storyteller who has the ability to make you laugh out loud, not only on first viewing but even after the 100th time, making him such a special comedian.
The live in concert was definately a peak in Pryor's comedy powers, a performance that secured his place in comedy history. Pryor is at ease with his stand up skills and the random exchanges with the audience. It portrays a large amount of his life to that point ; heart attacks, run ins with the police, animals, boxing, upbringing, marriage, sex, death, films etc and all packed in to one special performance.
Obviously when reviewing something it is easy to put across what you like about it. A word of caution should be put to anyone wanting to purchase; be prepared for strong language and high usage of the 'N word', which in these times is not used as freely or as inoffensive as Pryors use in this concert. I certainly dont find it offensive but there is a high amount of general swearing in the performance.
I am reluctant to give any examples of actual gags in fear of spoiling the DVD for any newcommers only to comment that Pryor describes his fathers death whilst having sex as "he came and went at the same time!" That is probably the best example of the type of humour Pryor uses within the gig.
This actual DVD features the added bonus of 'Stir Crazy' a film that added to Pryor's reputation as an actor, something that surely contributed to being paid more than Christopher Reeve as Superman in Superman III. The chemistry between Pryor and Gene Wilder is terrific to watch despite pryors use of cocaine was into orbit during the making of this amusing comedy flick.
With a plot consisting of two men framed for murder and looking at over 100 years in prison for the crime it becomes a tale of how two extraverts attempt to break out. Pryor's performance is decent and the film is certainly worth watching, especially as a compliment to the live in concert though it is a massive contrast to the stand up material.
Overall, the main feature is without doubt the fantastic in concert part of the DVD though Stir Crazy is an excellent accompaniment. There is a number of DVDs that have Richard Pryor comedy as a main feature but this is the definitive performance and definately the starting point for anyone looking to get into his material. Highly recommended!
