Advantages: Great for lovers of the comic Disadvantages: Middle of the road, average movie
I went to see this movie expecting greatness after reading rave reviews, however, I left the cinema feeling almost completely emotionless (which is unusual for me, normally I either love movies or detest them).
This film was OK, but personally I didn't care if any of the characters got killed or injured and to me this is a major flaw in a film. A film has to get me emotionally involved to get my vote, and X Men left me feeling, at best, indifferent. ... ...I had to have a one liner about Wolverine and yellow spandex explained to me! I have to give the film the benefit of the doubt in that respect, I may have missed many of the jokes because I haven't read the comics. However, my husband has always absolutely loved the comics, and he wasn't impressed with the film either.
I'm not saying that this was a bad film, it was perfectly adequate, unfortunately, I don't think that it will have too much appeal ...

X-men is one of the best films I have seen recently at the cinema. It is an action packed film which is rated for viewers of only twelve and above. It is based on the American world famous X-Men comic book, so if you are a fan of that you should most definately see the film. The film has all of the famous characters, such as Wolverine, Cyclops and Rogue. It stars Patrick Stewart. This film can be quite funny at times. With lines such as: 'How do ...

Advantages: Good special effects, better than usual plot for this kind of film, good acting Disadvantages: Any faults are down to the source (comic book) material
I went to see this movie because it's directed by Bryan Singer, director of "The usual suspects", which I enjoyed immensely. I knew nothing about the Marvel comics X-Men, so I was just expecting a good, sci-fi blockbuster with excellent special effects. But I was hoping for something with a little more intelligence, and some good acting.
And that's what I got. And more, I think. I read afterwards that the budget was relatively low, for an action ... ...it did the movie any harm.
The main thing that surprised me was that, if you wish to, you can read all kinds of things into it - it's most definitely not just a one-dimensional plot. The tale of mutants, the attempts by society to control them, and their going underground, is certainly about being an outsider; it's about discrimination, on several levels; and about minorities vs. 'the normal' people, the wish of either group to force the other to ...

...famour marvel comics that put X-Men on the map.
Yet, off i trudged with my mates to the cinema - and i wasn't dissapointed. The film made very little reference of importance to the comic book, meaning i could easily understand what was going on in the film. The action was endless, the effects dazzling, there was even the odd comical reference which stirred up the odd laugh. all in all the film was tremendous, a little weird at first what with metal ...

Advantages: Good special effects, few fight scenes, Patrick Stewart, Magneto Disadvantages: Die hard fans may be disappointed, seemed quite short
...straight. I hate the X-Men cartoon and I've never read the comics. And I'm not a huge fan of action movies. So I didn't know much when I went into that cinema (went? dragged more like...), only little things. I wasn't sure what to expect.
It was great.
I'm not going to go into real detail but it was just really good. I can't explain it really, but I'll try.
There were only a few fight scenes, which pleased me, but they were really good because ... ...really kept my attention all the way through.
I can understand how a die hard X-Men fan would be disappointed with it, because when you want something so bad it's never as good (Star Wars : Episode 1 anybody?).
Go and see it. You won't be disappointed! ...

But I do have one question, where was Gambit???? (Maybe he will be the subject of the X-Men sequel)......Hope so

...the hugely popular X Men comic books to enjoy Bryan Singer's film, which is loaded with creativity, cool effects, and characters complex enough to lift it above run-of-the-mill action films. And Singer sets the stage admirably for the sequels that could turn X-Men into the strongest comic-book franchise since Batman. ...

Advantages: Good plot, good acting, good! Disadvantages: None
...seen one! Yet, with no X-men background I was still able to enjoy this film and all it's characters. Without giving it all away (not that many will have no idea about this film) it is set in the not-too-distant future, when some humans have evolved a bit quicker than others and taken on certain non-human qualities! There are baddies and goodies leading to a fight to save the planet, basically! There is some great acting, from 'well-knowns' such as ...

Advantages: Very involving Disadvantages: Perhaps too obvisouly built up for a sequel
...of the Marvel comics, undoubtedly, X-Men leaves much to be desired. You would probably have a whole new level of understanding and appreciation. I belong to the other group of people, who know the characters and sometimes play the Marvel games at the arcades; the fascination with X-Men would have ended there. When my friends convinced me to go see the movie, I really wasn't expecting anything. I was however, pleasantly surprised.
The movie was well ... ...use of their powers. Perhaps X-men suffers from a similair problem as Star Wars, for the greater the expectation, the greater the let down.
Very few movies actually live up to the standards set by those who grow up with them. I left the movie wholeheartedly looking forward to the sequel and wishing that I had super powers myself, a sentiment shared by all my friends. And isnt that one of the most important things about a movie? No matter what you ...

I saw this at the cinema and enjoyed it. I saw the DVD for £10 so I had to get it. I thought I would review it as it is such an excellent title. It is certified 12, most likely because of the odd swear word scattered around! What it says on the box: “Born into a world filled with prejudice are children who posses extraordinary and dangerous powers- the result of unique genetic mutation. Cyclops unleashes bolts of energy from his eyes. Storm ... ...force of anyone she touches. But under the tutelage of Professor Xavier, These and other outcasts learn to harness their powers for the good of Mankind. Now they must protect those who fear them as the nefarious Magneto, who believes humans and mutants can never co-exist, un-veils his sinister plan for the future” Well they left out Wolverine- the main character in my opinion, and the best mutant. He has powers to heal himself very quick and ...

AT first, I thought this is 'waste of time' film. I went to see it because I have heard a lot of good comment about it. So, there I was in on of the multiplex. I was impress by the technical side of the of the movie, great animations, very real. One may say it has a week story line. It maybe true, but I can not think of anything more to put in this kind of movie. I believe they done the best they could. The end product was good, and very believeble, ...

Advantages: Strong cast Disadvantages: A little too short
Having stopped my friends going to see this so that I could go with my parents I can now annoy them all by telling them that it is as good as it looks. The fact that the two arch enemies are played by Shakespearian actors in an American film is wonderful to see. The acting is superb and the Brits are well backed up by the predominantly Australian/New Zealand cast. For a film to be such a box office success in America without many Americans in lead ...

Advantages: The film is very much like the orignal comic, very good hollywood debut Disadvantages: The film is to short, there is not enough time to take full advantage of the movie. It is over just as it begins
X-men is in my Opinion the best film since Starwars Episode one. I saw it last week while I was on holiday with my partner, we actually went to see it twice within 3 days. This film has everything, if you are already a die-hard X-men fan then you will be able to adapt this film easily with the original comic. The four main characters are all here with all there X-powers as before, Cyclops, Storm, Sabretooth and of course Wolverine, "Who I think is ... ...that the production of this film will turn the X-men into some sort of over dressed power ranger movie, then relax the producer has excelled himself with this and the outcome a very X-plosive film! ...what you might expect, the X-Men is not a terrible film. Though faithfully recreated, the characters are not wooden, one-dimensional do-gooders. Hugh Jackman, arguably the star of the film, makes a promising debut as the aggressive, slightly neurotic Wolverine while good performances from Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) and Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier) make up for the disappointment of Gambit and Beast’s absence. Singer is probably the best Hollywood director when it comes to films with lots of characters, as he proved with The Usual Suspects. Here again he weaves an exciting tapestry of character interaction, origin stories, plot points and allegories.
Viewers expecting to see a blockbuster action movie such as "Terminator 2" or "Die Hard" may be let down. The movie is more about character interaction and plot twists. Additionally, the budget for this film ... ...big action movies cost these days), which was no doubt significantly doled out to the likes of Patrick Stewart and Ian McClellan. But it's a terrific film, the kind of movie that has the viewer remembering scenes and quotable lines long after seeing it.
I have talked to comic book fans and those who never read a comic book and everyone I polled (except many critics, go figure) thoroughly enjoyed the film.
The success of the movie should also be ...
