Advantages: Fun, bright colourful fun Disadvantages: It's just fun, bright colourful fun
How often does a cartoon get successfully translated into a film? Just think about Judge Dredd or Tank Girl and shudder. But this time they have got it right, this film is fun shallow bright and visual, it is a comic in celluloid.
The story is that mankind has begun to evolve very quickly and there are mutants turning up who develop strong and wonderfully bizarre powers as they approach puberty. Popular feeling is against them, people are scared ... ...hiding (see any parallels here?. A rabid senator is pushing for a bill to force mutants to be registered in America. He is opposed by evil Magneto who lost his parents to the Nazis and fears that this Bill will lead to official persecution (and think about McCarthyism - he might have a point). Struggling to stop him is Xavier (Patrick Stuart in a wheel chair) and his x-men, graduates of his school for talented youngsters, where runaway mutants are ...

Not having read any of the comic books, I wasn't really familiar with the storyline and I expected this to be a hinderance to the experience but I was happily incorrect. This actually has likable characters, depth and a plot that makes sense (who would've thought). I read that Singer was rushed in the making of it and was kept to a smaller budget which in a way makes this film even better because we are treated to a film without distracting special ...

After seeing this "SKILL" film I thought that i just had to tell someone about it. Although some might have gone just to see VERY good looking girls run about in leather I went to relive the happy memories od marvel comics (NOT!). I only went to this film to see the oh so skill girlies running about, and boy were they mighty fine at doing it too. If you like hot hot girls, in hot hot outfits go see this film.
Other aspects of this film include some ... ...love the wolf fight scenes with the other mutants, as they really did bring back memories of old happy times gone past (sob sob...). If anyone likes action films and / or great girls, then this is a must for your viewing pleasure. My fav scene has to be when wolf puts down his outer 2 claws and salutes cyclops that was a very "SKILL" momment if i do say so myself. Go see this film NOW before the next one comes out!!!!!! ...

...the teeam leader of the X-Men but looked more like Chris O'Donnell in Batman. The effect they did for Toad was very impressive and he was probably the best of the baddies. They also had a younger version of Rogue than in the comics who's character is very much like Jubilee in the comics. The way the film ended allows room for at least another three sequels and i can't wait for the next one. ...

I went into X-Men thinking that I would be bored throughout the movie, and not enjoy it at all (I thought I was going to see Rules of Engagement, but we ended up seeing X-Men instead). I was proven wrong.
This film is not artistic. Its not a masterpiece. It won't be remembered in 20 years. However, it is the kind of movie that'll make you sit up, take note and keep you interested throughout.
I had heard of few of the actors in this, bar Patrick ... ...all surpassed my expectations by providing great performances. However, you didn't start reading this review for news on the acting and directing.
The movie? Well, its got action, its got adventure, its got plot twists, its got "uniqueness" (if thats a word), and its compelling. You haven't seen the cartoons? Well neither had I, but I picked this up straight away. Did I mention that the special effects are quite spectacular too?
If you're open ...

Advantages: A hugely talented director and cast. Disadvantages: It's all over too quickly.
X-Men is a thrilling, intelligent, witty, exciting, thought provoking and down-right fun movie that succeeds in bringing the much-loved characters to the screen in a way that will satisfy hardcore fans as well as enticing newcomers. This is the most faithful, and by far the best, big screen rendition of a comic book ever made. There isn't a single camp moment, there are no instances which will make fans cringe with horror, there's a pleasing absence ... ...with numerous fast food chains. X-Men is damn near everything fans could have hoped for and non-fans should be pleasantly surprised. After all, how many superhero movies begin in Auschwitz with Nazi soldiers leading a crowd of Jews towards the gas chamber?
Bryan Singer has finally proved that, when it comes to this particular genre, it's best to adhere to the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The Usual Suspects director sticks with the ...

Advantages: very close to comic line Disadvantages: not enough about the new mutants
To Start: I am a die-hard X-Man Fan!
I started reading this title some 20 years ago! I was not expecting to be impressed by this film, but I was!
It appears to me that certain purists are too infatuated with old faces to appreciate new faces. I personally thought the casting was excellent. Seeing hints of Firestar and Iceman were very nicely done.
I loved Mystique and Toad.
Sabertooth was well done and portrayed as exactly what he is and was, ... ...used ability to spew resin...
As for Magneto. Excellent choice! I take personal affront to comments such as Ian was "too gay", but chalk that up to ignorance and intolerance!
Patrick Stewart as Xavier was a fantastic choice. His abilities were just as in the comic book, understated and very controlled.
I thought Jean Grey, Scott Summers and Logan's little triangle was well done considering the time restraints.
Rogue's foray into the world was ...

I don't know how many of you have read the Marvel comics of the same name. I was surprised that they had not made this into a movie earlier. After all, there are far more characters to work with than some of the other Marvel stories that have been made into films (eg Spiderman)
This particular story focusses on the divide in society created by the discovery of the existence of human mutants. Poignantly the film begins in the Nazi Holocaust so as ... ...to the present day with the battlelines being drawn between those mutants led by Magneto (played by Ian McKellen) who believe there can never be peace between them and the rest of humanity and those led by Xavier (Patrick Stewart).
Xavier's group believe that an accommodation can be made with the rest of the human race, even though it is going to be a hard job. To that end they are trying to get as many mutants onto their side as possible for the ...

Advantages: Cool comic book adaptation with good extras Disadvantages: No commentary and film strays from Comic roots
...a big fan of the X-Men this film had a lot to live up to and it failed. That was on my first viewing at the cinema. I wasn't satisfied with the representation of certain characters and in some ways it was not true to the comic. However i decided to watch it again, this time from the perspective of someone who didn't know the in's and out's of the characters. This time it blew me away!
The film is stylish, superbly acted and boasts some great action ... ...downfall is the lack of action sequences. Don't get me wrong, i'll pick character interaction over fight scenes any day, but there wasn't enough use of the teams powers, in fact most of the team barely got any screen time at all.
As this is a DVD review i will concentrate on the disc. Not having seen the R1 version i am unable to comment on the differences.
The menus are nicely animated but i feel they could have been better.
The Branching system ...

...is the head of the X-men team and believes in a society, in which mutants and humans can live alike. His attitudes (himself being psychic; a mutant of mind-reading) towards the whole issue of 'mutant fear', is extremely strong. Many-a-time he has attempted to persuade his best friend Magneto to join he team, only to have his offer refused. He is indubitably one who is determined to change the world for the better.

Both he and Wolverine have grudges against each other; many times they argue over decisions and at others, they are just plain uncooperative. Cyclops is married to Jean Grey (one who was also loved by Wolverine), and his upsets with the humans, was his inability to control his power to shoot hot lasers from his eyes in his youth period. He is clear-minded and most of the time, he makes the right ...

...someone decided to make an X-men movie, from the eXcellent 'Blade'to the very nasty 'Phantom' comic book characters have eXploited in the quest for the neXt big thing. Now everyones favourite band of superheros have been brought to life in an almost totally faithful representiation of the comic. The action is eXcellent and fairly ... ...as could be eXpected, although Wolverine is annoyingly tall and slow. The hummour is perfect, not enough to make it into a comedy but enough to break up the action scenes. Advantages: Assured performances from McKellan and Stewart Disadvantages: Special effects fail to live up to billing, rather dull
Quite frankly disappointing. While the concept and storyline move along fast enough (though the middle lags slightly), the unimaginative execution of ideas and scenarios means that from the production side, its no better than other action/sci-fi movies (it doesn't come anywhere close to the Matrix). While special effects are good, they don't take your breath away and the whole affair is saved only by a few good one liners and assured performances ...
