Now I do something which some of my friends think is fairly risky. What's that I hear you say? Do I argue with my wife when she's near the cutlery drawer on those particular days of the month when her hormones make her.......let's think.........less rational than usual......no. Do I mix drinking red wine with Jack Daniels.................no. Do I filter between lines of traffic on my motorbike and rattle the door mirrors of cars with my elbows? ...
...my friends think is risky is that I sometimes buy films without having seen them in the cinema. This risk factor has just increased as now I own a cracking DVD player (see my op on the Pioneer NS DV 55), I now pay out more for my risky pleasure (enough about Amsterdam though, back to the film). The film made very little reference of importance to the comic book, meaning i could easily understand what was going on in the film. ...kind of made the film an anti-climax but that doesnt take anything away from the film which i enjoyed but i didnt sense the same for everyone in the cinema hall. Anyway for a good day out at weekends i would definetly recommend x-men as a great family night out ...

...when i went to see x-men or i'd have been very disappointed, it's so all hyped up, if you've seen the trailer to the film you've seen the best bits virtually. The story is so boring and long winded it makes watching tiresome. It's one of those films with stupid flaws you can spot too. For example there's a scene where the good x-men are shackled against a wall with metal girders, you can blatantly seem them as rubber painted as metal as they wobble ...
...things in them you can see that are fake, but it's only the boring film you have time to notice them on. Overall, if you like x-men then it's not so bad, but if your just going to see a action film, then i'd give this film a miss. ...

Okay, now this is a film which I have been looking forward to ever since I heard about its conception. I tried my hardest not to get caught up in all the hype in case it turned into an incredible disapointment like so many films previously have, most recently for example, MI:2. However, being a fan (not an avid collector, but someone with a reasonable knowledge and a penchant for Marvel cartoons/comics) of the X Men, I had reasonably high expectations ...
...to be over a little too quickly, mainly due to the recent onslaught of 3 hour epics (90 minutes used to be considered a normal length!). The characterisation was a little loose other than that of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Rogue (Anna Paquin) but this opens up a whole new realm to explore in the inevitable sequel(s). Ray Park (Phantom Menace's Darth Maul) also puts in a good turn as the evil henchman toad, however this brings me to my main problem ...

X-men is a film by 20th century fox. The film is based on the popular marvel comic by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The comic was first produced in September 1963 and has been a huge hit since then. The comic is about a team of super heroes that are mutants. Charles Xavier is the professor and teaches the mutants how to use their mutant powers to make a world where mutants and humans can live together in peace. ...fairly faithful adaptation of the X-Men comic strip which has been immensely popular in the USA for years. It suffers only a little for the ever present Americanisms, dated comic book imagery (Check out Magneto’s helmet!) and continuous moralising so popular in recent Hollywood offerings. ...throughout and is a beautiful visual-effects laden spectacle of a film. The DVD shows the film in a sharp, anamorphic widescreen presentation in the original 2.35:1 ratio. It looks good, though a lot of the film relies on dark imagery and shadows, so the benefits of the high resolution are sometimes missed. ...as not a complete X-men ignorant or a hardcore fan ... I could assess both sides of the argument. But sorry for sidetracking for you ciao people! What the movie is generally about is that the humans are involving with a special power and the intervening of mutants and 'normal' humans. The 'baddie' in the movie being Magneto believes that there will be a war between normal humans and mutants. And there are the good mutants and bad ones. However, like ...
...the characters accordingly allowing the X-men illiterate to catch on and enjoy the movie. I feel that the movie was really good in total and that it was thorougly enjoyable and ti kept you on your seat. The special effects were really good and they didn't go over the top with thrying to purposely make it overly special effected! (if that makes sense!) ...

Like many fans of the comic-book series, I was looking forward to seeing this. However, like these fans, I was well aware that many mistakes could have been made in the translation to the big screen.
