Advantages: It's funnier than it should be and the Rock can act Disadvantages: It's not good enough to become a classic meathead movie
Beck is a “retrieval expert”, who is tired of collecting debts for the Mob and just wants to retire and open his own restaurant. So his boss Billy Walker gives him one last job; all he has to do is go down to the Brazilian jungle, find Walker’s errant son Travis and bring him back to LA to face the music. The only thing is Travis is on the trail of a priceless gold artefact that both the local guerrillas and the local gold-mining despot want to get ... ...dragged along for the ride with the rebels and the bad guy in hot pursuit.
If you hated the big dumb action blockbusters of the eighties, you’re really going to hate this. It has lots of big fights, loud noises, explosions, a hero with a neck like a tree trunk, an annoying sidekick, virtually no social conscience and only the slimmest of plots. If on the other hand you’ve been wondering why they don’t make them like that any more, this is going ...

Advantages: very funny, easy to watch and great cast Disadvantages: Occasionally too many fake wrestling moves but nothing too major
Welcome to the Jungle (2004) is one of the latest films to hit our screens, and to be honest at first I really didn’t want to watch it. There was something about ‘The Rock’ starring in it that I just wasn’t buying into. Growing up I was never much of a wrestling fan and so watching a former wrestler trying to act in a film wasn’t my idea of fun. I mean could wrestlers even act??? Well after a little persuasion from my other half, I was about to find ... ...before we start this film goes on for approximately 104 minutes. So this is an excellent choice if you don’t want to watch anything too long. It is certified 15 in the UK due to slight violence (mainly just fancy moves) and occasional swearing. So obviously if you’re under 15 don’t even think about it!

...movie. Like Holocaust, Welcome To The Jungle offers a key factor, from the offset you don't care a bean about any of the characters. Bijou and Mikey (Veronica Swyak and Nick Richey respectively) are ignorant pigs of human beings, defacing ancient shrines of the dead, and frequently getting in the face of locals, both in the more modern day towns, and out in the wilderness. ...I have to say that Welcome To The Jungle really surprised me. As I mentioned back at the start Wrestlers historically don’t make good movie actors, The Rock seems to have changed that theory. He has someway to go but with a few more films like this he could become Hollywood’s next big Action Hero. I’d recommend the film to anyone whose looking for a light hearted action film to sit back and enjoy.

...of very undemanding cinema.
Welcome To The Jungle (originally know as The Rundown in the USA) is an action comedy film that plays it simple in line with its target audience. The story line is undemanding – nice guy has to be bad to pay the bills, but has a good heart underneath it all – and this keeps nicely in line with its cast, upon whom few demands are placed to be anything other than “fun”. Don’t expect too much ... ...is still there but in Welcome To The Jungle he is even cheekier, even more childish and even more exasperating than before. You either love him or hate him and fortunately, I must admit that I love him. The pairing of the two leads works well enough and as much as Beck can resist the temptation to kick seven bells out of Travis, you’ll probably want to do the same – but I think that’s the point. The love interest is provided by ...

Mr Beck, (The Rock) has a dream of setting up a restaurant with the money he earned as an expert in getting what his boss wants, which is pretty much anything that he is owed. Their size is played on a lot too, I believe The Rock is about 6’5 and Sean William Scott no more than 5’9. Welcome to The Jungle has The Rock wandering into a nightclub to pick up his latest 'rundown'. 10 minutes later he's exchanged wisecracks and very skillfully (and in very artist camerawork) beaten up about 9 American footballers who got in his way without even removing his suit jacket. My boyfriend roped me into watching this film the other day after much debating over whether or not I would like it. I am not a fan of pure action films and only enjoy those with added humour, I mean, what is the point in a deadly serious film when the whole point is that films are there to entertain you. My boyfriend talked me into going to see this film just because it featured The Rock. If you have never heard of him he's a wrestler with the WWF/WWE. Previous films I have seen him in Are The Mummy Returns & The Scorpion King which were disapointing.

I wasn't expecting much but I was suprised.
The acting was okay, plot logical if predictable & action sequences entertaining.
The characters
The bodyguard/ hero Beck (The Rock) was great a tough guy - hints a dark past but with a softer side - dreams of opening a resturant. He used his wrestling training in the action sequences - it was fun spotting the moves & having a good laugh at the improbable looking ones. I was quite impressed ...
