...hundred years a robot named WALL-E (Waste Allocation Loader Lifter, Earth-Class) has been trying to pick up centuries worth of rubbish left by the human inhabitants of earth. But in that time he’s developed a personality and is easily distracted by shiny objects, spends time caring for his pet cockroach, gazes wistfully at the stars and longs for companionship. Then a spaceship lands near his home and from it comes EVE, who appears to be the answer ... ...rubbish. The aerial shots of WALL-E going about his business, a tiny speck amidst the towers of garbage show how desolate the planet is. We get glimpses of the ubiquitous advertising for global conglomerates and our first inklings of why the world has turned into a tip. You can see individual dust particles as they glimmer in the light or are blown around by the wind and you can identify items in the trash piles. The skies are subtly hued and the ...

...to take him to watch Wall-E at the cinema since the film first started being advertised a few months ago. Disney Pixar's latest wonderful collaboration had my son hooked from the first ad on TV. He laughed his head off and I thought, 'How could I deny that?!' So, last week, with rubbish British Summer weather, we headed off to our local cinema for pick'n'mix and some Disney magic.
The Plot

Wall-E is on his own except for a little bug which seems to be his pet, until a large spaceship lands, leaving a more modern robot named Eve, who has been sent by the spaceship to find proof that life is once again sustainable on Earth.
Wall-E finds himself going into space, stowing away secretly on board the ship and finds the human race has turned into a bunch of lazy couch potatoes with literally everything computerised ...

...here, to my mind, as Wall-E is probably the best film they've ever made! So what makes it so? Ultimately it's the character of Wall-E its/himself. People, I believe, are must more disposed towards liking non-human characters with very human characteristics. Anthropomorphised animals being the stable of animation through the years, after all! Why? Because we can give them all the good traits, and none of the negatives. Such a sweet, naive character ... ...human features. As a robot, Wall-E can be utterly 'good' without alienating the audience - instead, we can empathise with the human characteristics utterly, while accepting him as something with unspoiled, childlike innocence - and none of the calculating, self-interested traits that creep in by the time a child is old enough to be aware of its world. Okay, enough of the psychology already! What I'm trying to say is that it's easy to start to empathise ...

Advantages: Good animation, cute cleaning robot Disadvantages: Lack of talking, very over rated
We have had this DVD sitting in the 'to watch' pile now since Christmas so I decided to take advantage of having the TV to myself and sit and watch it. The film starts off by us meeting a robot who collects and condenses rubbish on planet Earth called Wall E. He is alone as all the other robots have rusted and stopped working. We can see that the Earth is absolutely covered in rubbish and there are no people living here now. Wall E has a friend is ... ...Wall E spends his day looking for useful items which he takes back to his home and stores. One day when he was working as usual a space ship comes to Earth and leaves another robot, called Eve. She is searching for any proof that life can once again exist on Earth. Wall E tries to befriend Eve but she is more concerned about completing her mission. Wall E takes Eve back to his home and here he gives her a plant which she is delighted with and puts ...

My wife really wanted to go and see this recently at the cinema using our unlimited card - I was a bit reluctant as the trailers didn't show it to be all that great and I had heard a rumour that there was supposed to be no talking in it what so ever! Wall-E is the last of a series of automated robots left behind by a huge retail giant a la Wal mart or Tesco to clean up all the mountains of rubbish left behind by human civilisation in their quest for ever more goods and even more convenience. BuyLarge owned huge superstores, banks, fast food outlets, and more as can be seen in the ruins amidst the mountains of rubbish. The rubbish build up got so bad, that BuyLarge's holiday ... ...hasn't returned, and all the Wall-E units save one seem to have broken down, and its no wonder. No one remained to do any repairs! Nor did humanity have a reason to return. The bots could collect the trash, and compress it, but what to do with it afterwards? The answer apparently was sculpture, as some of those skyscrapers are not buildings at all, but carefully stacked bricks made of compressed trash.
It's a lonely existence, and after all his ...

Wall-e (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) is a robot. His job is to tidy up rubbish. A very noble cause & even more so when it's all the rubbish we humans left behind before blasting off into the stars to leave The Earth in hope that nature could regenerate itself. Advantages: Great story, CGI etc. Disadvantages: Bit hypocrtical of Disney
Wall.E is a weird film for me to go and see in the cinema. When you reach a certain age going to see cartoons in the cinema should be a taboo, it's not anymore thanks to Pixar but it still should be. I went to the late showing which wasn't so bad. I wasn't surrounded by small chidren who just stare at me inanely rather than watch the film. Wall.E is made by the same people who brought you all the other great Disney CGI films like Toy Story, Monsters ... ...for all ages as what Dreamworks came up with but the really nice ones that all had a certain charm and were great for children. For me anyway I thought Pixar-Disney had started to go abit downhill. I mean Cars and The Incredibles although massive commercial successes weren't (to me at least) as great as A Bugs Life and the other older ones but they started to come back with Ratatouille and now they're back on form with Wall.E.
Wall.E is a small ...

...was lucky enough to get Wall-E on DVD for my birthday. I'm reliably informed by my sister that they are selling it in HMV for around £17, and I noticed a lot of eager parents braving the queues for it around Christmas time. I'm not surprised because it's a fantastic, definitely reminiscient of the old Disney magic. Wall-E is a very cute robot, and does silly things like wear a bra across his eyes and throw away a ring to keep the box, which children will find amusing too. The twist in the story comes when Wall-E meets Eve, a robot sent by the human spaceship to look for any existing life so there's a chance the humans can return. He shows her his treasures, amongst which is a plant, the only one on Earth. Eve of course takes this back ...

Wall-E is the latest outing from children's' film favourite, Pixar. Since their debut in 1995, Pixar have been anything but disappointing touching on the lives of toys, bugs, monsters, fish, superheroes, and now, a lovable robot.
