This was a film, which had been lurking on my 'to watch' list for longer than the iron lady was prime minister, and I finally got around to selecting it in my local video emporium the other night. A british film with a couple of well known names and an enticing plot, it promised to be good but delivered a hell of a lot more than it promised. THE PLOT
The film is set in a small island in a far-flung extremity of Ireland (one can't help but wonder ... ...half the film expecting father ted to pop up). The village consists of only 50 people and is filled with interesting characters, such as the woman who won't marry the man in her life because he smells of pigs and the miserly old woman who constantly moans and lives with as many cats as imelda marcos had shoes. ...the cunning plan.
Waking Ned is a fun British comedy which relies on a simple story and the eccentricity of the characters to provide the humour. In this film we follow a couple of loveable rogues who attempt to get rich by pretending to be a lottery winner who had unfortunately died of shock when he had realized that he was a winner. That really is it, there is nothing complicated about this film at all, and that is one of the reasons why it is ... ...Conclusion & Rating
================
Waking Ned is a very enjoyable British comedy which after you get over the slight difficulty with understanding the Irish accent; it becomes a very easy film to watch. What it achieves is to make us laugh at the quirkiness of village life, as typified in TV shows such as "Last of The Summer Wine", although Waking Ned is much funnier. Sadly, this film will be lost on anyone who doesn't appreciate or understand ...

What a sweet, funny witty little film about two old irish men who scam 7 million pounds from the National Lottery. I watched this film on DVD and it;s a joy to watch, easy and funny with no violence or swearing just good humour. Set on the Isle of Man, pretending to be Ireland the film follows the lives of two friends who realise that there is a lottery winner in their community! Realising the winner 'Ned Devine'has died in his chair from the shock ... ...monkeys agree to pretend that one of them is to be Ned Devine when the Lottery come to visit. I watched this film three times as it has some brilliant scenes with the two main charcters, and great scenery. It's a good film for a relaxing night in with a hot chocolate and a bag of maltesers when you need cheering up. Definatly go see it! ...
