Shyamalan Rocks

Advantages: Enjoyable, great acting
Disadvantages: Comparisons to The Sixth Sense

...very good film and because Unbreakable starred Bruce Willis and was directed by Shyamalan, many had thought that it would be the natural sequel. When I watched Unbreakable at the cinema, I left feeling a little disappointed, not because the film was sub-standard, but because I was looking for another Sixth Sense-esque movie – I suspect this was the same for many. However, after seeing it again (x2), I realised that my original judgement was a little ...
...have probably gathered by now, Unbreakable sees Bruce Willis in a starring role again as he tries desperately to break the mould of his stereotypical, vest-wearing action hero. He plays David Dunn who, at the start of the film, is involved in a train crash which kills all crew and passengers except for him. In fact, he manages to escape without a scratch. This miraculous feat brings him to the attention of Elijah Price, played brilliantly by Samuel ...

...situation whilst encountering Elijah. Unbreakable is, as with any other Shyamalan picture, a trick of the mind. It lulls you into one way of thinking, only to differ in perspective once you encounter it's twist (generally situated just before the ending). The performances on the whole, are sound; Jackson is the stand-out as the questioning Elijah, whilst Willis is amicable in the part of David, a security guard who probably wished he'd never encountered ...

Advantages: Quite interesting..

...than meets the eye. Unbreakable was M Night Shyamalan’s directorial follow-up to the hugely successful movie, The Sixth Sense. Many people expected him to come up with another supernatural, eerie thriller, and whilst there are some similarities between Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense, I think that most people were slightly disappointed with this film. Unbreakable’s appeal is certainly less universal than that of The Sixth Sense, and ...
...both The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable have a similar plot construct. Firstly, the presence of Bruce Willis as the lead character is notable in each, largely because his character undergoes a similar process of self-discovery. Also, each of the leads has a young male child supporting character, who seems very knowing about an otherwise inexplicable scenario and aside from the fact that they are played by different actors, the two children could be ...

Superman hmmmm perhaps not.

Advantages: Stars Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson. Good idea for a story line.
Disadvantages: To slow for me, also left me with questions and wanting more more more!!!

...sort of super hero and unbreakable – sort of the exact opposite of himself. David’s son Joseph is very keen on this idea and later in the movie tries to convince his Dad that he is actually unbreakable! Joseph finds his Dads gun and bullets and aims the gun at him saying it won’t hurt and he shouldn’t be afraid (yeah right). David convinces his son to put the gun down by telling him he will be in big trouble if he doesn’t. ...

He does put the gun down you will be pleased to know and the movie moves on – David is trying to remember his past – was he ever sick!! Well not sick but he’d had a few accidents. When he was a young boy he almost killed in a swimming accident – so now you know his weakness!! Like ...

Not quite the 6th Sense

Advantages: Good acting, decent storyline
Disadvantages: Some unnecessary scenes make it seem somewhat laboured at times

...film could have been. Unbreakable has been billed as the unofficial sequel to the sixth sense but as far as I can see the only similarity between the two are the writing and directing talents of M. Night Shyamalan (who also wrote the screenplay to Stuart Little and Wide Awake starring Dennis Leary.) Anyway, before I completely put anyone off ever seeing this film again (which I assure you is not my intention) I better give you at least a basic ...
...bring myself to completely recommend Unbreakable as a "must see" film. At times I feel the film could have been improved by upping the pace slightly, with perhaps a few less seemingly completley irrelevant scenes setting up the meeting with Elijah. In summary, if your looking for a great film, this isn't it. But if you like Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson its probably an entertaining way of spending a couple of hours. ...

Advantages: great film, extras, presentation

Unfortunately for Unbreakable it had some people going into it expecting something along the lines of The Sixth Sense. the resulted in a some disappointed reactions but look closer and this is actually a film which is far better than most of the Hollywood ouput purely because it's story is very clever and interesting. ...like everybody else. Unbreakable is slow moving but for a reason, I wouldn't call The sixth sense a fast paced film either so I don't see peoples problems. Too many movies have started to resort to the A.D.D style of filmmaking and it takes someone like M. Night to slow things down and give his film a distinct style. His scripts themes are very grand and he waves a comic book world with ease, I class this as a fantasy with a classic case of hero ...

Neither can we relate to the character of Samuel L Jackson, his character was far ...

Unbreakable is Unwatchable

Advantages: Talking point, Jackson
Disadvantages: No plot, badly edited, badly directed, what twist?

Unbreakable was the much-hyped “next offering” from M. Night Shyamalan, which was to be BETTER than The Sixth Sense. Before its release in the cinema, I was looking forward to it with bated breath, along with the other millions. It took just over two hours for all that bated breath to be sadistically squeezed from my body as I was deposited unceremoniously on the slag-heap of bored, frustrated film watchers who’d rather like their ...
...It deserved its praise. Unbreakable begins superbly. The audience is treated to an almost Hitchcockian initial scene, where the camera centres on a mirror reflecting the image of a mother cradling her newborn child. The shot confuses the viewer, sets them off-balance, and puts them on their guard. The scene gives little explanation of what is to come, but that is not unusual these days. Next up, the Hitchcock continues: a fast-moving train, the ...

Advantages: superb direction, taut script, great acting
Disadvantages: none

There is a time - about ten minutes from the end of this movie - when I thought ‘No, you can’t end it like that’. Suffice to say – ‘It didn’t’ ! A Stadium security guard with his marriage on the rocks. He has just ...

With the subject matter it ...

It may leave you shattered though....

Advantages: The acting, the situation, the direction are quite remarkable....
Disadvantages: The overall idea may appear preposterous and ruin what is a perfectly acceptable film.

A very typical story about extraordinary events happening to an everyman BUT with a much vaunted set of twists, M. Night Shyamalan returns with generally a very underappreciated movie....I say this is grossly unfair. Bruce Willis is David Dunn, a security guard with his marriage in turmoil. On a train journey, returning from a job interview in New York, he ponders his future and how it will affect his family....and then disaster strikes.... There ...

...I have ever seen! So, Unbreakable was already off to a difficult start! However, Bruce Willis had managed it once again, with the help of the incredible Samuel L Jackson. Shyamalan has doubled up and shown his fave type of movie...that of normal people in normal lives exhibiting incredible talents and abilities. Sixth Sense was ...
