...The opening shot of his Twin Peaks movie is David Lynch putting an axe through a television set. An appropriate beginning, for in adapting his dark soap opera for the big screen, Lynch turns the cult show into a deeply unsettling and ultimately stunning examination of the effects of child abuse and teenage nihilism. In short, David Lynch is in prime weird country - again. Fire Walk With Me is a prequel to that love it or hate it television series ... ...moves to the town of Twin Peaks—cue familiar road signs, dwarfs who walk backwards, the other place and theme tune ‘Falling’—it provides a strange sense of comfort. But it is not a feeling that is destined to last. Those who know the series will know the plot by now - wild child Laura is abused and subsequently murdered by her father Leland (Wise), or is it his satanic alter ego ‘Bob’?
But newcomers shouldn’t ...

...of reality gone bad, and Twin Peaks is, to date, his magnum opus.
'Fire Walk With Me' is essentially a prequel to the 'soap opera' from hell, but is best viewed with a foreknowledge of the series. In this way, events in the movie have much darker tone, and the viewer is aware of nuances which would be missed otherwise.
The plot is a foretaste of the downfall of Laura Palmer, the eye of the storm which consumes the series. We learn more about the ... ...of the rural town of Twin Peaks. It ends just as the series began, with the inevitable murder of Laura Palmer. The stage is set, and this sees Lynch delving once more into the underbelly of smalltown America; through him we are left with the uneasy impression that his view may well be the reality...
Fire Walk... is also an excellent introduction to both Lynch and the world of Twin Peaks. It acts either as a poignant afterthought at the end of an ...

Advantages: David Lynch classic Disadvantages: A bit confusing
If you never saw the tv series this might not make a great deal of sense. It is a prequel to the TV series coving the events leading up to the death of Laura Palmer (at least I think that's what her name was). It's directed by David Lynch, famous for his odd films (Lost Highway). Although a prequel, it does answer some of the questions raised by the tv series, which in my oppinion has never been matched by anything else I've ever seen in this style. ...

I like strange films, like Sci-fi ones which i have to explain to every one else when they have finished, but I have met my match with this one.
I admit to never having watched the TV series, but since this is a seperate entity, and also meant to be a prequel to the series (I gather this from the other ops) - this is no excuse.
Let's start with the central focus of the plot. As far as I can see, most of the problems and psychotic episodes experienced ... ...fact that her father has raped her every night since she was 12!
Add to this wierd dream sequences, including midgets, red curtains, angles and black and white zig-zags, and I do believe that's screwed-up by anyone's standards!
However, I recognise that many parts of the story are extremely clever, but so much of it made no sense whatsoever, that I don't think it ever will.
Watch at your own risk ...

THis film was the prequal to what has to be ( arguably ) the greatest TV series ever. The fact that most critics said it was hard to follow and completly weird was all part of its charm. But then the story was weird because it was there to explain the weirdest of stories. The tv show made a mockery of all programs that came before it, and then this fantastic film made a mockery of the entire cardboard cut out society that is Hollywood. Its just a ...
